I use Firefox as my default and a little bit of Opera but never use internet explorer. But when I run ccleaner it shows almost 140 internet explorer temporary files being deleted. I run this every day and it's there every time. Is some program that I don't know about running on my machine and secretly using internet explorer? (I have avast and antispyware running). Could this be related to my using Outlook?

Windows stores Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and File Explorer junk in the same place. Best not to be concerned about it.

You don't say what Windows you are using but will presume it's 10??

If you want though open Internet explorer, go to tools, internet options, open the General tab, in the browsing section click on Delete. In the dialogue box that opens DESELECT Preserve Favourites and click delete at the bottom of the box.

If you never use IE you can deselect everything selected by default on this dialogue if you want.

Back on the general tab SELECT Delete browsing history on exit, then apply, then ok. This got rid of some carp on my machine that seemed to repopulate even though Internet Explorer has never been used.

Thanks for putting me at ease. I'm using Windows 7 which may have different settings that the ones you posted. But in any case, now I won't be concerned about why they're there. And they're getting deleted every day anyway.
