So I am a total noob when it comes to PCs. I bought a prebuild Pc from Lenovo a year ago and now I thought about changing the GPU from a gtx1060 to a gtx1660super. But after I installed the new GPU my Pc had some strange purple lines on the screen and I don`t know why. I think it might be because of the motherboard but I don`t know. Does anyone have a Idea about what could be wrong here.

Couple of questions if I may;

Before fitting the new GPU did you uninstall the drivers for the GTX 1060 first.

What is the brand and model name or number of the PSU.

Wherever you read that is 100% wrong, what is happening when you boot up is Windows is loading the drivers for the GTX 1060 which are totally incompatible with the 1660 Super.

Do you have a link to the model of 1660 Super that you have.

Good brand of PSU but something to keep in mind for the future, Bronze efficiency rated PSUs are ok for entry level desktops but for gaming rigs you should always use a good quality brand Gold efficiency rated PSU as they are designed to specifically for powering high end add on GPUs.

Thanks for the GPU info (y)

Create a new folder on the desktop, name it Nvidea drivers.

Download and save to the folder just the Version 445.87 drivers from here

Download DDU from here

Create a new system restore point then run DDU and uninstall all present Nvidea drivers.

Restart the computer in Safe Mode only (No Networking).

Install the new GPU drivers that you saved to the folder on your desktop.

Restart the computer, test then post back with an update for us.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as I have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

Ok sorry for bothering again but I did the DDU thing and I also uninstalled my drivers. Am I supposed restart my Pc in safe mode and install the new drivers and after I do that install the new GPU? I`m just trying to make sure I know what i`m doing

Yea I installed the new one yesterday but it didn't work so I went back to my old one because I thought my new GPU wouldn't work. I have the gtx1660super next to me but not installed. Is this a problem?

No problem but just as well that I spotted it because you made no mention of having removed it and could have ended up with the same issues with the 1060 if you installed the 1660 Super drivers while the 1060 was still in the computer :eek:

With the addition of having to swap out the GPUs follow the steps that you need to do as were post in my reply #6, make a note of each step and then tick them off one at a time as each of them has been done;

Hey so I just installed the new GPU and installed the drives for it but it still has these purple lines and idk why? But I have two apps which didn't see the GPU before but one of them does now. And when I try to play any game it gives me an error. I don't know if u can help me or if u still have time but it is appreciated.

Is the 1660 Super still in the computer and did you install the drivers for it in Safe Mode as was suggested.

Right click on the video card in Device Manager and when it opens click on the Properties tab and see what it says, the yellow ! usually means that the drivers for the device are not installed.

I have a question (ok maybe more).

The images from Post # 13 they are form the affect?

Is the screen still showing the purple lines and are they there all the time?
If they are then this would lead me to cable or even the monitor. Have you tried a different monitor or that monitor on a different system?

How are you connecting the monitor to the display card?
Check to make sure that no pins are bent and or missing.

So the purple lines are still showing all the time. I don't have another monitor but when I use the other GPU it normally works just fine. I am connecting my gpu and monitor with a displayport. And if I go in the device manager and click properties it shows me this
