Welcome to PCHF fmile1,

You will definitely need a new video card.

What are the brand and model name or number of the motherboard, the RAM ( is it 2 Xs 4GB sticks or 1 X GB) and the power supply.

Also worth a mention is that for online gaming and streaming you need a good internet service, if that is bad it doesn`t matter how good your hardware is.

Got to pop out for a couple of hrs but will check back later.

hey thanks for the reply! my mother board is a Veriton m490g, there is 4 2gb ram sticks, and the power supply is a SilverStone 500W Strider Essential. wifi is decent and can stream off my ps4 very smoothly. so new video card you recommend? thanks again no rush to reply btw

Veriton m490g is not the MB it is the name of the actual computer which according to the specs here say that it is a micro tower.

From info that I found for the MB it would appear that it has Legacy as opposed to UEFI BIOS and being that it is an OEM branded board (Acer) you may have a problem with some newer video cards as they will only work with UEFI boards.

Is the board here the same as the one that you have

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply, it really does not help any and just makes for unnecessary reading, thanks.

No worries, we have almost all of the info that we need, would you be ok with opening up the computer and measuring the present GPU, there are different versions of the GTX 950 that you presently have and one of them is the smaller "mini" type, we need to make sure that you have enough room inside of the case for any new video card, while you are there it would help if you could get the exact model details of the PSU, they made four different versions, three were not too good and one was ok as it could produce 468W, the worst version could only produce 408W and was not even Bronze efficiency rated, you may however wish to consider replacing the PSU in any event as being almost ten years old it is seven years out of warranty, let us know on this.

Final question, did the Acer computer ship with the GTX 950 as stock or was it added afterwards.

Can you also answer this for us, entirely up to yourself if you do actually replace it but for our part we do need to make sure that we bring such things to your attention.

As you will be aware computer hardware prices are high in Aus and the best that I could find that would be considered an upgrade to your present GPU costs $229 with free shipping, GTX 1650 here measures about 19cm so you would need to check that there is enough room inside the case for it to fit.

sorry for the late reply been busy with loads of work. how do i get the exact model of the power supply? (btw the help you have provided so far has been exceptional thanks so much)

No worries, we understand that folk have other things to attend to but due to the large volume of abandoned threads you get on forums we have to have a procedure in place for asking for an update if a thread goes quiet for a couple of days or more.

The PSU should have an information sticker on it, you will obviously need to take off the side of the case to access it, see example in the attachment below;

Yours should be one of the following, ST50F-ES, ST50F-ES230, ST50F-ESB or ST50F-ESG, one was not too bad, one was half decent, the other two terrible, they all hve on thing in common though, they were all from 2010 so nearly seven years out of warranty.

The SST-ST50F-ES230 is one of the bad 408 ones I`m afraid, regardless of this even if one of the better units from the same almost ten years old category I would think twice about investing circa $230 in an add on GPU with such a bad PSU in place, as said, your final decision so all we need to know now is if we have been able to answer your question/s satisfactorily, if not, ask away :)

ahhh oh well, so you think i should upgrade the power supply first then look into a gpu? and yeah you been awesome, im clueless when it comes to this stuff but all replies and into has been so helpful thanks sm

Honest answer is that I would wait until you have the funds available to upgrade both at the same time, you may even be able to find a combo deal that would save you some cash.

As an asides, you deserve some credit here as it is seldom to never that folk who have such an old power supply are willing to replace it while it is still powering up, many are also prepared to take the chance of using a PSU that does not meet the power requirements stipulated by the manufacturer of their particular GPU, plain crazy if you ask me.

You are welcome btw and thank you for your kind words :)

yeah right. might take the pc down to a local shop and see what power supply they would recommend and might just upgrade everything like ram and case etc. but yeah been a great help

The case aside there is only the GPU and PSU worth upgrading, you do not need and will not use the 8GB of RAM that you already have, should you suddenly take up flight sims upgrading to 4 Xs 4GB sticks of RAM would be required, your MB specs say Maximum Ram Capacity:16 GB
