Information Web of Trust under fire

Recently I received a warning about WOT extension in a Mozilla based browser, which disabled it, and on a little research it appears WOT has been increasing their earnings by selling their users surfing habits. I fell in the habit of using WOT some time back after stupidly referring some research undertaken by me to be from a less than "Kosher" source, and have liked the extension since it was recommended to me. It appears there's not a lot of similar simple site rating checkers out there, but have started used "Bit Defender traffic light" extension. Even though it appears Bit Defender traffic light concentrates on the "threat" aspect of the page rather than the user rating, it's so far so good, but early days. I notice Avast have a similar app, although not browser specific, but am a bit hesitant to extend the Avast bloat already installed.

I am not looking for ad blocking as that is well in hand, but would be happy if any others have had experience with web page only rating extensions that would like to share their satisfaction with or otherwise.

Thanks Mal, the first link is where I found Bit Defender traffic light, and one that appeals in the second link is Norton, but it's a stand alone app. What I am now thinking is putting back WOT, and overriding Mozillas disabling it, because if they are selling my browsing history someone is only going to get bored carpless after paying to see my very boring surfing habits.

Interesting, alerts for this page, bit of overkill?
