Solved W10 update problem

Not open for further replies.
I am trying to get a desktop PC running that has been put away for a couple of years. After setting up all went well so I set about updating Windows 10 using the update utility. All went OK until it reached Feature update to Windows 10 version 20H2 but this fails giving error 0x80004005. I have tried various Google suggestions for this error but nothing helps, every time it blows out! I have tried to do an online download for installing the latest version but this fails as well.

The machine has an Intel(R) core(TM) I 5 CPU and there is 2 GB memory and the motherboard is an Asus P7P55D LE with 4GB ram.

Any suggestions please.

Lets get some system specs on this so others can assist better.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Include the make and model of the Power Supply Unit if this is a Desktop.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

Thanks, the URL is http://speccy.piriform.com/results/m2okM4pykPG3clhl6EFkjAm and the power unit is power engine 550 plus

showing that you display card is Graphics: 1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 5700 Series. Which requires a minimum of 600 Watt power supply

You state to have
power unit is power engine 550 plus

Which is under powered for that card.

You only have 4 GB RAM and this will barley run windows.

Which is fine if using the system for basic browsing and email.

Have you attempted to manually run updates again some times is takes more than once for them to install. Showing that you are still on release 1607 and Windows 10 is having some fits updating from that release.

You can also back up you person data and install a fresh copy of the more up to date version of windows 10.

Thank you all for your interest and hard work. It seems that the memory and power supply are inadequate for installing and I expect running later versions of Windows. The machine is certainly not worth the cost of fitting larger versions of these, so I think a visit to the recycling centre is the only answer! Thanks again.
