Solved USB Ports not working

Status
Not open for further replies.
I've been having this problem for a while now, it consists of my USB ports not working... I have even reseted my PC using the windows tool and nothing seems to work. The problem is that only the blue USB ports are working ( USB 3.0 SuperSpeed ports ), the red and black ones aren't ( USB 3.2 and USB 2x High Speed ). What happens is that when I plug anything in it, it just doesn't work, it doesn't make any noise when plugged in or anything like it. I also have all the latest chipest drivers and the bios updates... I really need help with this as I'm struggling a lot having only 3 ports to use all my hardware.

If there is anything I missed please inform me so I can reply.

My PC specs:

Windows 10

Asus ROG B450-F GAMING

AMD Ryzen 7 2700x

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti

12GB Ram 2133MHz

Kingston 120GB SSD

1TB HDD

EVGA 600W 80+ Wired ATX

which USB2 ports aren't working - the front, the back or both?
does Windows have the USB2 drivers installed - check Control Panel > Device Mansger to check.
Hey, so all of the other USB ports that aren't USB 3.0 are not working. There is 2 USB2 at the back and 2 at the front, they all don't work :( . So yeah, the only USBs ports that are working are the 3.0. I've have just checked if I have the USB2 drivers installed and as far as I know, I think I don't have it. I also think it's better if you take a look yourself, as I'm not sure. And if I really don't have it, can you help me on where to go to install that driver. Thanks

Hey, I was having a look at my motherboard's tech specs and I found out that the USB ports that are working, doesn't have any specifications written above it. The USBs mentioned inside the red box, are the ones that are currently working. However, the rest of them with bold writing above it, are not. Have a look.

Perhaps it suggests that there is something missing from both my motherboard and processor which is not letting my USB ports work? I'm not sure, this is just a bit of information that might be helpful. Thanks

open up the case.
along the bottom of the motherboard there will be USB header pins, make sure the front panel USB2 ports are plugged into one of those. the USB3 front ports will already be going to the appropriate USB3 header port on the motherboard as there are already working.

have to reinstalled Windows recently? if so did you reinstall the motherboard drivers?
but looking at your pics, it seems the USB2 drivers are installed.
the USB ports at the back should simply just work as they are controlled by the motherboard.
any extra USB ports, like the front panel or any extra ports at the back, would need connecting to a USB header on the motherboard.

let's get your complete specs.
get Speccy from here; https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds
in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
now you can paste (Ctrl+V) that link into a post.

One component Speccy doesn’t cover is the Power Supply Unit, so please also include the make/model of the PSU.

in case it helps, also show a shot of the back of your rig, and one showing the inside arrangement.

Hey, I will just mention that checking on my case, at the front panel there is only 2 USB2 ports, and the rest are all on the back panel. Anyway, I oppened the case and I could see that one of the USB header pins was already plugged by a cable from the CPU, and so I tried to find another that would fit and I found a loose one labelled as "Card Reader", I plugged that there, and it made no difference.

And yeah, I have just reinstalled Windows but maintaining my files, and as well as that I also reinstalled my Motherboard drivers, all done today.

PSU MODEL NUMBER: 100-W1-0600-K3

Shots of the inside and outside of the pc are attatched, thanks for the help so far Bruce, I really appreciate it.

on the bottom of your mobo, one USB goes to the front panel, the other seems to go up to the processor, as you say. no idea why - it probably is power for the RGB lights.
unplug it and see what stops, it'll either be the pump or the lights.
the other USB along the bottom must go to a card reader you mention.

up higher on the right of the processor, under the 24pin power connector, that looks like a USB3 cable for the front panel ports.

either way, all the USB ports on the back should be working.

go into Control Panel, Device Manager and under the USB section, expand it and right click each entry and Uninstall. then reboot the PC and it should auto re-install those.
see what happens.

Hi Bruce, awesome news!! Everything working as normal now. I think what made it work was uninstalling all the USB entrys in the Device Manager. I don't even know how to thank you, I really, really appreciate your help. Thank you again.
