Solved USB boot not working

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hi,

I have Dell XPS L321X with windows 7 professional. I have created a Windows 10 bootable USB using Rufus. I want to reset my laptop and install windows 10 using this USB. The windows 10 installer is not booting up with the USB. I have USB storage device selected on boot priority order. I receive the message "Operation System not found" during usb boot. I have tried Youtube videos to find a fix for this issue but the advanced setting they are advising to make in the BIOS are not possible in my BIOS setup. I have attached images of my BIOS to show what I can and cannot change in the setup. Could someone please help me with this.

Kind Regards,
Nii

I use the Windows Media Creation Tool to make a bootable image of Windows on to a UISB stick.
I'd recommend that option first.
And of course, leave your Boot Priority Order as is, with UISB Storage first.

Thank you so much for the advice. Windows media creation tool worked!! I want to sell this laptop and want to wipe all the data, such that it is not restored again. I am thinking of using dban bootable usb drive to do this. However, I would need to use rufus to do so. Would rufus still be OK to create a bootable dban drive to do this? After wiping the data i would use the win 10 bootable drive to reinstall windows. Wondering if i am on the right track?
