Solved Upgrade to Win 10

Hi

I turned off automatic win 7 upgrades when I found out that win 10 would be automatically downloaded - that was in the early days of its release. I now have 8 upgrades queued so I should probably go ahead and do it but I still don't want win 10, which I think you have to pay for now. So question: if I go ahead and do the win 7 updates will I get win 10?

Hello sorcerer,

Re enable and fully update Windows 7 asap, Windows being out of date puts you at risk of malware attack.

You will not have to worry about Windows 10 being foisted on you as you now have to manually install it.

So I went ahead and triggered the upgrades, and rebooted the PC as requested, and it took some time to 'prepare the configuration of Windows' and then restarted, but the PC ran very slowly with big lags. So after a while I shut it down, but during that procedure it has hung for an hour now, saying, 'preparing the configuration of Windows, do not shut down the computer'.
What do I do now?

With so many updates to download and install it would have been best left to do so either overnight or when out for the day, the computer will be slow until it is fully updated, whatever you do, never be tempted to do a hard shut down of Windows when it is either downloading or installing updates, it will hose your OS if you do.

You need to wait until the updates are all downloaded and installed I`m afraid.
