Solved Unstable System - Process crashing on Win and Linux

Not open for further replies.
I think I followed your steps now.
1 Uninstall with DDU
2 Reboot into Safe Mode
3 Start the installer -> same error
3.1 Manual install via Device Manager
4. Reboot
5. Test
-> Seems good
-> Testing with browser and googled sth
-> Tab crashed
-> Testing with a news site
-> Tab crashed
-> soon after browser crashed
-> Testing with Windows Store
-> Crashed in about a minute
-- No Desktop Manager crashes - they have returned after some time
NB: there are some Windows Updates. And I did not run the GUI installer again after manual install. Made another MTB

Have you had any problems with the computer when it has been being used when not connected to the internet at all, no new dmp files suggests that Windows was not the problem.

With the computer isolated from the internet running SUPERPOSITION and Furmark to test the new GPU and other hardware should be done, if no problems running either of the two it goes some way to suggesting the present problems are internet related.

I am currently pressed for time until the 29th. So I lay out my plans and test them when time allows it and report later.

1. I would test without the LAN cable
2. I would try to download the 2 programs via internet and not share them via USB and co
2.1 If I can not download it I would get them via USB
3. Run the programs without LAN

Is anything missing ? Do you want a Speccy link?

I tested today without being connected to the internet.
1. Powershell testing the Powershell language writing a short fib printer
1.1 no crashes
2. Microsoft Solitaire started one game multiple times
2.1 crashed mostly in a few seconds
2.2 could move 3 cards
3. After some testing the Desktop crashes sometimes. It is like a ramp up.

I could have tested more but I wanted to check whether the application crashes were collected. Opening the Event Viewer I see nothing. Checking a tab it reports the service is not running. I think this is a side effect of the preps of clean boot.

I checked the event manager after bootup and it had the service running. I think then that the service crashed after some time.

After bootup and entering my password I got a black screen(There is also a Kernel_Power error in the EventViewer) and it rebooted. I then made a MTB Log and as I plugged the usb in the black port closed its explorer Window I got a CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED bluescreen. So I tried after the reboot to copy the minidump but I had no luck it crashed into the same bluescreen as I tried to open an elevated cmd to copy to the USB(No drag). Now I have 3 logs and have attached them with the MTB log.

I did not test with SUPERPOSITION or anything other.

Your MTB log and crash dmp both suggest the same thing, Windows corruption.

Any testing atm should be done within Windows and preferably by running something like SUPERPOSITION while not connected to the internet in any way.
Can you see if you are able to do this, there is nothing in your update to suggest there is a hardware issue so the system really needs to be tested with the new GPU in place.

Got some crashes trying to install Superposition (dumps file). I still have some installers for GPU testing on my USB from the old tests but this one was a fresh download.
Then I ran the program with default medium settings. I got ~10 fps to scene 4 of 19 till it crashed. Any attempt after the program would not start the test. I did not have a connection to the internet. As usual I made a MTB log.

Your crash dmp cannot be opened but your MTB log apart from the obvious SUPERPOSITION crashes again suggests Windows is corrupt, the only other explanation would be the storage device that Windows is on and/or the SATA port on the MB that the storage device is connected to, we checked the the drive and it was ok so that leaves Windows or the MB itself.

hmm I could unpack the dumps. Do you mean the files inside are corrupt or unzip does not work. In any case I uploaded them as zip again (the old zip I used for earlier uploads)

Second time lucky, the first time gave me the attached when trying to upload the dmp to the debugger tool.

Both crashes were caused by the same thing Bug Check 0xEF: CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED

There are no drivers involved in the crash, the only hardware error that we can see in the MTB log is with the keyboard so it is either that or Windows itself and the latter suggested by the amount of Windows services errors that there are.

I am using the keyboard the whole day on my backup with no issues to date.
If I see that correctly we have ruled out RAM, CPU, PSU, maybe GPU, storage devices in terms of health ; for now. Then there could be 2 main causes Windows or hardware with MB as the most likely contender and then cables or heating?

Sorry but we have done so much testing that I cannot recall it all I`m afraid :(

Correct me if I am wrong but did we take a short cut with Windows and rather than do a clean install did we instead just uninstall the drivers from your other computer.

This possibly more telling, have we tried Puppy Linux to boot the system from RAM rather than a HDD or SSD.

Using DDU to get rid of the old GPU drivers is not so important but do need to confirm if the Windows installation you are using has had all of the drivers for the other computer properly uninstalled.

If I may interrupt.

Have you tested the HDD for bad sectors?
Are you using the M2 or the SSD for the Operating System?
How was the Operating System installed onto that device?
Did you ever run the Live version of Linux and how did the system respond?
Have you tried Safe Mode how did the system react?

I can not guarantee that. I installed Windows quick with an iso from the Media Creation Tool and then just used it for 1 program for my job. It then expanded to a few programs but soon we wanted to try whether the M.2 was the cause of the problem. Ever since it is now only connected to the machine with problems.

I think we have tested the SSD with Seatools and it passed all tests. I do not know about CrystalDisk though.
I am using the SSD for the OS. The M.2 is not connected.
I create a USB through an older iso(from Media Creation tool) I had from the old thread since the some ppl had problems with the new iso.
I ran Puppy Linux when the M.2 was still plugged in and got MCE errors in the kernel log. The web browser crashed too I think.
I used Safe Mode only when I installed a new driver , mostly GPU or Chipset. I can recall that the system was more stable but the installer crashed and I had to install the drivers manually. As far as I can remember I did not do anything else while in Safe Mode with no network drivers.

If you have not done so already would preform a back up of the files that you do not wish to loos on to an external storage device.

we do the basic test with this software since it is mainly designed for Seagate drives. You can use the Check Disk command with the /r switch.
May take a long time to run depending on the size of the drive.

How to pull the information and see the results

Try it with out the M2

I did not do anything else while in Safe Mode with no network drivers.
Did you try Safe Mode with Networking (does not always work with WiFi)
