Solved Unstable System - Process crashing on Win and Linux

There are other Intel drivers present but you may get away with just uninstalling the two identified below, I suggest that you save these drivers to a thumbdrive ready for reinstall when you are done.

You mention needing access to this drive a couple of days next week, do you want to put your thread on hold until after that.

My problem is that I need windows partition for a program every week on Tuesday and Thursday. As far as I know the program does not run under wine or other compatibility layers for .Net. So I there is no use to keep the thread on hold.
Can I use DIsm for the backup like this on an stick?

dism /online /export-driver /destination:"path"

The easiest thing to do would be to back up all Intel drivers on the drive then delete them, fit the drive in the other computer then power up with your fingers crossed that it boots into Windows and allows you to install the chipset and GPU drivers.

It is only a temporary measure, M2 type SSDs are a good idea when they work ok but I`m afraid that they cause too many problems for me to ever invest in one, depending on how many M2 slots a MB has the SSD will either share resources with the CPU or bandwidth with the GPU and the latter is of particular note for causing issues, seen many folk that have been convinced that their GPU drivers were bad and all along it was their M2 SSD device that was tripping the PCI-E slots up.

Maybe I should have crossed more fingers but...

So after I removed the Intel HD 4000, the SMB BUS, Intel Management System, GPU with DDU with a backup before. I connected the drive and turned the power on.
It booted up normal and let me to the login screen. Then I clicked to get my user and type the password. Then it greeted me with a bluescreen CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED. After the reboot I could log in. Seeing the Desktop another bluescreen CRITIC... . Then it went to the recovery Screen. I did nothing and restarted. Got in short another bluescreen and after the 4th try I got into the Desktop after the Screen froze(after pwd type in). It came back and I plugged in the USB for the chipset drivers. After some crashes of the Desktopmanager and explorer I could start the installer only to see it crash as always when I tried it earlier (prev thread) at the hardware detection. Then I opened an elevated command prompt and copied the 3 minidumps to the usb (attached now as zip). After that I started the device manager and selected the driver folder for every yellow mark mostly PCI installing the drivers manual. After I got all installed the system seemed more stable. I do not remember clearly wether I ran MTB before the manual install or after but I ran it and attached a log with all checkboxes ( I feared a crash).

Overall we now have access to the system and not stuck in a install corrupted while it configured.

That was a whole lot of real hard work, you deserve a medal and a pat on the back, well done for getting through it (y)

While i look at the info you have uploaded, do you want to go ahead and create a new system restore point then check for any updates.

I created the system restore point and had a new issue. Additionally to the bluescreens I get reboots without a bluescreen. So the system just restarts.

I am currently looking into Windows to Go. If that works with rufus and the programms I need work I wont need the drive.

Right, was waiting for your update before replying.

Your latest crashes again list PspCatchCriticalBreak+115 and ntkernel and no drivers involved so sorry to say that because you have swapped storage devices it looks like the MB has the issues.

See if you are able to generate a new MTB log for us if you can.

They are all Windows errors with the first one on the list saying that Windows is not activated.

Error: (06/28/2020 05:16:38 PM) (Source: Software Protection Platform Service) (User: )
Description: License Activation (slui.exe) failed with the following error code:

Have you tried updating Windows at all since you fitted this SSD into the second computer.

So my plan was to upgrade from the laptop to the new spec (the one we are talking about), I have 1 Windows key which I used on the new spec until I had the problems. Then I started the first thread and installed Linux on the laptop. Up until recently this all was fine. Until I needed to use a program not working at all on Linux. So I installed win 10 on the ssd and used grub to dual boot. I only used Windows for the program at the start and tested a beta I signed up for which did not run at all. So far this is all I used the install for. In about 5 weeks I would have formatted the ssd and installed Android x86 on it. So I only did the updates after the install for the drivers and nothing more. I think I used the media creation tool and I do not know which version we are currently on.

If you have previously activated Windows on the computer that you are using the second SSD in now you should not be getting activation errors, the Windows software on the SSD does not matter as it is the motherboard details and the product key that Microsoft go by.

You need to try and get the Windows OS on this SSD fully up to date else you are fighting a losing battle, if you cannot get it fully up to date the only alternative is to clean install Windows and start from the beginning.

If a Windows product key has previously been entered for this computer the answer would be no, you just go into Windows Setting, Update & Security and then check for updates, I am surprised that someone of your ability needs to ask this tbh.

After logging in and checking the activation it says that I have a digital licence now. It seems more stable and I could easily update. It now says no more updates needed. But I still had explorer.exe crash but more rarely. When I shutdown the PC I got an error message you can see in the photo. I have made another MTB.log and attached it here. Since I manually installed the chipset drivers and it seems more stable, should I try to run the normal installer again?

A hardware issue with the CPU and a few Windows errors which were expected so no biggie, past logs are behind us now and we will just see if we can sort the errors in the last MTB log and hope that the problem with the CPU was a one off.

Download then run the Windows All in One Repair tool from here, disregard the malware guidance but follow the other steps to the letter and in particular ensuring that you first create a new restore point and perform a proper Windows clean boot before running the repair, details for the clean boot here.

I will be going offline soon as I have a real early start so no rush on my behalf.

After preparing a clean boot I started the program you linked me after a reboot. Unfortunatly I did not see the user interface of it since it crashed every time I started it. I have a screenshot of the error message and made another log thinking it might have more details about the error.

The Windows errors aside for now.

The error in the MTB log says that you were running the AIO tool from a removable drive and not from C:.

Error: (06/29/2020 02:18:04 PM) (Source: Ntfs) (User: NT AUTHORITY)
Description: A corruption was discovered in the file system structure on volume E:.

A corruption was found in a file system index structure. The file reference number is 0x100000000007c. The name of the file is "\Tweaking.com - Windows Repair\Files". The corrupted index attribute is ":$I30:$INDEX_ALLOCATION".

After reading your hint I went back and found out that something was corrupted and I could not mount the usb. Since this usb had no data on it I cared for I formatted it and grabbed the version again from the web. Trying to run it again as an installer I had a CRC error so that something must have gone wrong downloading or I have a malformed version. Trying again directly from the website not the mirror had it working and installed. (How do I compute hashes on Windows?).

I went by the steps and attached the pre scan here. Step 3 had no file errors and step 4 sfc has found anything either. I selected all the test as I could not decipher where I can deselect the malware option. I saw an option going over a preselection of the tests for malware. So in total it listed me 44 tests. After it had done 25/44 tests the process crashed. So I restarted the app since I can select the tests I want. But before I could do that Windows threw me an error "the external attributes are inconsistent". Trying again I got into the selection but it crashed. Same error same try again I selected the other 23 tests with a margin. At 18/23 it crashed again and I did the same not getting the error. With the 3rd testing session of 9/9 I was done. It then told me to reboot.

After the reboot I did not see the usual short blackscreen before login and seeing no other crashes I just tested with mspaint and drew something. After I had gotten to the 'D' it crashed and so I copied the pre scan results and went to the install folder of the app and compressed the logs folder. Notable there is a full log from fdisk.

Do the following for us, test then post back with an update.

Select Start , and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.

1: Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/"). Press Enter
