Solved Unable To Click In Taskbar

Hello - i ran seagate seatools to check the hard drive for errors and it passed. And it has antivirus installed and it is showing no issues. However, when I type the pin to loginto windows 10 it takes me to the desktop, and I can click on shortcuts on the desktop no issue.

However, if I try to click the start button, it never displays. I can click the up arrow in the right side to see "extra" running programs, and I can hover over the programs to see names, but if I try to click on one (example the wifi icon) it never opens, or never gives me addition options like properties, etc.

What steps do I need to take to remedy this issue?

let’s get your PC specs...

download Speccy from here; https://www.piriform.com/speccy/builds
in Speccy, click File > Publish Snapshot > Copy to Clipboard > Close.
paste that link into a post.
One area Speccy doesn’t show is the Power Supply Unit, so also include the make/model of the PSU.

while we wait for those, have you tried these from an elevated command prompt;
  • chkdsk c: /r
  • sfc /scannow
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  • dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup /resetbase

okay - and results are in :D

C:\WINDOWS\system32>dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.19041.844

only issues Speccy highlighted were; your C:\ is very low on space, and either your logging in as a user called TEMP or your main account has a cuurputed profile and the system has logged you in as TEMP.

create another user account and log in as that and see if the problem goes away.

no change.

I noticed that myself is that it's logging me in with a Temp profile even tho I choose my profile and input my pin.

I'll try to create a new profile...gotta remember how to open control panel with keyboard shortcuts :D

@Bruce -
Am I doing this wrong? I did
windows + r
typed control

navigated to Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts\Manage Accounts

Now I am trying to click on "Add a new user in PC Settings" but nothing is happening.

Update - using netplwiz I was able to create a local account and log-in succesfully.

The issue is non-existent with the new account I just created.

So it is a corrupted user profile?

What options do I have for creating a new account tied to my yahoo account, and not loose my desktop/documents/downloads etc?

I also never new about Account Profile Fixer.
I have always created another profile from the system created TEMP account, then signed into the new account.
from there, go to C:\users\old profile and copy its Doc, Pics, Vids, Downloads, Desktop, and Music folders.
anything else is a luxury but if it's important, you can always find the browser bookmark folder, email folder and anything else that you may need.
