Rustys:

I have tried installing Win 7 only to the "new to me" desktktop pc via the usb as the blue ray drive will not open.

What have you tried? I thought I needed to go with win 7 first. To be honest I did not think about installing Win 10 or 11 directly. My plan was to upgrade to Win 10 after installing Win 7 disc ( via USB) since I have the program disc for it.

Have you confirmed that the drive is connected via power? yes the blue ray disc is connected to power.
Make and model?
Media LG 14x blue ray RW

Have you tried the mechanical release button? Not sure where it is but i have tried all of the buttons near the drive.

Is this a prefabricated system or someone built this? Prior owner who was a gamer built it. Im not a gamer.
yeah nah - that won't make the stick bootable so your PC will never see it as a bootable device
so you never went down the path of using Windows Media Creation Tool?
Bruce,

I did try to create and use the Windows media creation tool over a week ago but I forgot my product key. I was able to download an .exe file but it was very small in size at. 18.6 mb. Windowsmediacreation22H2.exe
Looks like I cant download Win 7 due to age and will have to download win 10? Do you concur?
I will be able to try again tomorrow

Thank you

You should see a hole just blow the drive tray.
Method 2 Using a Paperclip if the Drive is Stuck

No, you do not have to install Windows 7 the update to 10. If you have it handy should be able to use the same key for 10.

Here is the link for Windows 10.

Under
Create Windows 10 installation media
Select Download Now this will create the USB to install windows 10 from.

You stated that the Blue Ray has power connected did you remove the cable and reconnect it to confirm that it is connected properly?
SInce my original computer has win 7
Was this a prefabricated system? If so, STOP trying to use that disk since it is created specifically for that system and not this one.

You stated that the previous owner was a Gamer do you know what operating system was installed on it prior to them wiping it?

Also make sure that you have all of the Drivers for the system downloaded and to start with the chipsets.

Tried and tested It worked
Stuck a new drive in laptop made the usb as I posted . Booted and installed (I was surprised).
If you must have win 7 then there is a win 8/7 media creation tool you can use but I would expect the same result.

As Rustys advised win 10 would probably be better. Must you have win 7? Do you have your win 7 product key?

Reinstall Win 10 Fresh Install

Download the win 10 tool run it to recreate the flash drive – Must be minimum 8GB

How To Install Windows 10 From USB - YouTube
In the video at 2:54 you will notice it restarts the computer.
When you are doing this and you get to that point Remove the usb stick whilst it is restarting.
Also if you want to setup a local account instead of logging in with a Microsoft account
Turn off your wireless network and or remove the network cable.
This point is 3.32 in the video - Choose I don't have internet.
If you want to log in with a Microsoft account then leave the network as is.

Before doing any install, it is a good idea to go to the support page for your system. Download the drivers you are going to need ie chipset, sound, video, wireless, etc. While win10 has a lot of native drivers, microsoft drivers are designed for ease of use and are NOT designed for any type of performance. Store these drivers on another usb or you can even just make a folder on your install usb when you are finished making the install usb. Copy the drivers into that folder.

When you are finished with the install, then install your drivers. Install the chipset first then the rest of them. Reboot each time when prompted.

If it does not boot from usb. In the bios go to advanced >Usb configuration and make sure it is set to enabled

No but I will disconnect and reconnect it,

I'm not sure as I assume the prior owner put it together or bought it buillt by someone.

You stated that the previous owner was a Gamer do you know what operating system was installed on it prior to them wiping it?
I believe he was a gamer based on bios info. No I do not know the OS that was used.

Also make sure that you have all of the Drivers for the system downloaded and to start with the chipsets.
Is there a good place to download the drivers? Thank you

Peteroz thanks so much for your detailed information. I follow most of it except where to find the driverset. Apparently i can download from Microsoft directly, correct?

Thank you.

PS Yes I have a Win 7 product key

Rustys,
Well I just checked the power cable for the Blue ray. Guess what it was disconnected.! It was behind another cable so hard to see, o thanks for tip.
The manual pin hole method does not open the blue ray tray, The button on the tray when depressed will cause the computer to pause from running, That seems odd.

Where did you get the system from and if that cable is disconnected what else is. Do not remove the CPU and or the heat sink from it.

Does anything come up on the screen when you turn it on? Do you even have the display connected to the proper port in the system.

without knowing anything that is in the system make and models I cannot honestly state if anything is even missing. Just because there are display ports on the motherboard does not mean that they system has the capability to display off them.

At this point I would tear it apart and put it back together and or get my money back.

Did they validate to you that the complete system works?

If you can get into the BIOS try resetting that.

I saw the desktop for sale on craigslist from a private party. Since it was having some issue which was attributed to a power issue the wife of the owner gave it to me. The power pack was bad so I replaced it.
Yes when the power is on the screen appears but goes into the bios system.
They told me it does not have any memory or os.
Yes the computer was supposed to be working prior to it going for sale.

Since I need to download and run an .exe file from Windows to my usb to download Win 10 most public places will not permit it. So I have a friend who will download windows to my usb once they get a USB adaptor, Hope to get that done early next week
