Solved TAP Windows Adapter V9

Status
Not open for further replies.
I recently reinstalled Windows 11 and after the install my TAP Windows Adapter V9 shows not connected. I have researched this on the web and tried all I can think of but the problem still persists. It prevents connecting to websites when my ProtonVPN app is connected. The VPN connects to all servers but my browsers will not connect to sites. All works fine when the VPN is off. I have tried uninstalling the adapter and uninstall/reinstall the VPN app. Nothing works. Does someone have a solution?

I'm using version 2.3.2. I have tried removing it thru device mgr. and reboot. I get a message "adapter missing" but I can see it in network connections. I'm assuming that this adapter not connected is what prevents me from connecting to websites with the VPN on. Could it be something else? ProtonVPN support has been no help.

Was it working before you did the reinstall and how was it preformed?

Did you install the chipset then the drivers in the proper order?

Let's get a second person to look at this @PeterOz I do not use a VPN that much.
The VPN was working fine before I reinstalled Windows.

I used I/O bit driver booster pro to install the drivers.

None of my browsers connect to websites. However the TOR browser will connect to the internet.

I'm using the built-in Windows 11 protection and nothing else.

I have tried disabling my firewall and that didn't help.

This is the reason that you are having issues this is crap ware snake oil.

ALWAYS go to the manufactures site to get the proper drivers NEVER use third party software.

Best thing to do is complete wipe and reinstall.
USING the proper and correct diver install in the proper order.

I ran the following CMD's
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /renew
netsh winsock reset
netsh interface ipv4 reset
netsh interface ipv6 reset

turned on ProtonVPN and I was able to connect to one site. I tried other sites and none would connect. I went back to the site that connected before and it would not connect.

I repeated the procedure above and received the same result. One site connected only one time.

I am using the "smart" protocol. But I have tried them all with the same result.

I did take the advice in post #10 and removed I/O bit. I downloaded the manufacturers drivers and installed them but it did not help. Several times now I have uninstalled/reinstalled ProtonVPN and I get internet access without a problem. But when I do a reboot and login again the VPN blocks my internet access. I have tested 3 other VPN's since and they all work fine. I am giving up on ProtonVPN.
