Sudden filling of disk space?

Hi!
I have an Acer laptop with the latest Windows update installed. Today I have been moving files and photos to an external hard drive to free up some space in order to download a game. After I freed up about 50 GB, it suddenly jumped back to indicating that only 11.5 GB are available. Steam has been updating in the background, though that should have only taken up about 800 MB of space.

Any ideas why this happened? I tried restarting, but it still shows me that only 11.5 GB are free instead of the previous 60 GB...

While I'm not sure the exact cause, it's possible there was some sort of backlog of downloads waiting to be completed, without knowing all of your programs/etc this is just a guess.

I would try cleaning off more space, 11gb free is a recipe for disaster, if you have some old games or folders you can delete, that would be worth your while.

Using Disk Cleanup and Defragment and Optimize Drives will help you a bit.

So other can assist let get a speccy report.

Do not forget to post the make and model of the PSU if this is a desktop.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.
