Sound not coming through speakers anymore

Never had this problem before. I have Bose speakers for the pc. They are connected to the green socket in the computer. Today im playing a game and the sound just fades and disappears. After 5 minutes or so it came back, then went again .

I've connected it to the headphone port of the pc and sound works fine(music coming out the speakers) , but at the back (the green socket) it doesn't work. Tried YouTube and other sources to check it's not the game and it isn't

Ant help appreciated.
I'm running Windows 10.

Hi Gus and thank you for your reply.
I have tried my existing Bose speakers in another music player and they work fine.

I have also tried the speakers in the front end headphone port and they work .

I'm getting a feeling the soundcard has gone ?

Could be just the port that the speakers are attached to. If it was the sound card then the front ports would have the same issue since they run through the same sound card.

Have you checked the sounds card configuration.

Do you have a microphone plugged in?
Try removing that or muting it.

Here is what I am referring to.

Set it to Do Nothing.
