Slow websites, not sure about Proxy configuration

Some websites have been slow in Firefox. (FYI: Firefox is up to date.) I did some things to improve this:
1. Adjust Connections Per Server (network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server to 10 and network.http.max-connections to 256).
2. Disable Prefetching

3. Create a new places database: rename the file places.sqlite to places.sqlite.old.
4. Turn off hardware acceleration.

I didn't try running Firefox in Safe Mode. (I use uBlock addon for popups and it hasn't caused any slow websites in the past. I did disable uBlock on the websites that were slow and it didn't help.)
I didn't Back-Up Preferences File.
I didn't switch Firefox Default theme because I don't see any Default theme in Settings->Themes section.
I didn't adjust the Cache because I don't see any "Override cache management" in Network tab.
I'm unsure what to do with Proxy Settings because I use a VPN (Mozilla). I did try using "No Proxy", "Use Proxy System Settings" and also "Manual Proxy Configuration" (us.smartproxy.com and Port 10101) and I turned off VPN and none of this helped.
I didn't Reset Firefox because I've done that before and I lost my dropdown menus and lost my Search Bar.

Not sure what to do next.
