Solved Slow internet

Status
Not open for further replies.
A few months ago my computer started to have issues with internet, the router works fine because my phone runs fine on it, the internet is fast because I run another computer on the same router with no problems, I have tried multiple Ethernet cables. But I have really slow internet, steam thinks I’m offline, and webpages take a minute or to to load. I cleaned it and it made it better for about a week and now it’s slow again. Any help would be very appreciated

The computer is five years old, the internet has not changed, but I’m pretty sure the internet going in is fine because I have a second computer linked to the same router and it runs fine as well as phones

Does this pc have a built in lan card? One way that might help is buy an add on lan card.. The age of the pc and if it has a built in lan card, can be problematic.

Hmm, maybe.. That piece of hardware might be failing or just isn't up to speed with the current way internet providers are sending out the internet signal compared to 5 years ago... I have had this problem before..

Hope you don`t mind me chiming in folks :)

The phone being wireless and not too demanding will not affect your Ethernet connection, is the second computer connected via Ethernet or is it wireless.

If your computer is the only thing using the router is the poor service the same.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

The second computer is Ethernet as is mine. However, I’ve tried in plugging the other one and just running mine and it made no difference. I tried running speccy and I couldn’t get it to snapshot because it got stuck analyzing the operating system and the network.

Excuse me for interrupting...

Lets try a different reporting software and see if it can pull the some of the information that is needed.

Have you tried Safe Mode with Networking? Is there any difference?

You can download on to a working system and then copy the file using a USB driven run and then transfer the file that is created in the same way.

Please download MiniToolBox and save it to your desktop. Run the program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When the program opens select the following boxes:

Flush DNS
Report IE Proxy Settings
Reset IE Proxy Settings
Report FF Proxy Settings
Reset FF Proxy Settings
List content of Hosts
List IP Configuration
List Winsock Entries
List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
List Installed Programs
List Devices (Only Problems)
List Users, Partitions and Memory size

COPY
and PASTE the information that is created in the log in your next replay.
