I tried to insert a regular size (not micro) SD card from my digital camera into the SD-card slot on my new Dell Inspiron 5000-5570 but it only inserts about a quarter of the way. Do I need an adaptor?

'a quarter of the way' seems not far enough, they can stick out a bit, but not that much.
because you actually can at least get it in, seems to suggest it IS a SD slot and you DO have a SD card.
but what are the chances you have it around the wrong way, or upside down???

Checking the specs, it is an sd slot.
My laptops came with things in the slot when new. Shine a flashlight into the slot to be sure you haven't pushed something in that was installed at the factory and wasn't removed before trying to insert the card.
