Also is the only way to view the windows files in Linux is by clicking the drive icons bottom left sda1,sda2,sda3 as those are the only hard drive portions I have managed to mount and seem to mainly only contain driver type software for the hardware.

Solved saving files in windows safe mode

Not sure what is happening with Puppy so remove the CD from the drive, restart the computer in Safe Mode then follow the steps below.

If you are 100% certain that the pictures are still in documents you can try another approach in XP, boot into Safe Mode, connect the device you want to store the data on, create a short cut to the device on the desktop, open Windows Explorer, locate your photos then drag and drop them to the storage device short cut that you created on the desktop.

Hi due to the hard drive being about to go bang,i remembered i had a customer who worked in IT Tech,so i managed to contact him and he will have a go for me.
Seems like my best bet as I dont realy know what I am doing fully so may make things worse,but i did try to follow your good advice as best I could and thank you for your time.
Some one tried to drag the 'user name document' in control panel onto the memory stick drive icon while in window safe.It just seemed to be a short cut to the document and not the actaul 13gb of data.I actualy dont fully understand the last dragging files advce you asked me to try and dare not do it in case its my last time to run the drive.
