To start off, I have quite a bit of Corsair parts: the H100i ELITE LCD with the controller core, 2 fans, and memory. Most of this stuff got installed fine and only needed software/some tinkering to fix any minor problems, but lately, I was changing my fan setup to have the RGB fans on the front and non-RGB fans on the cooler that's on the top of my case.
Since I wanted 3 RGB fans on the front, I ordered another Corsair fan and put it in. At this point, my fan configuration is: H100i fans on top and bottom, new fan in middle. Since my command core setup was RGB and fan ports 1 and 2 as TOP and BOTTOM, respectively, I moved the new one to each of the 2nd ports and moved the bottom fan to the 3rd ports. So essentially, the problem now lies within the 3rd BOTTOM fan, which is currently broken (RGB cable only). I will call the top fan (older one from H100i) and the middle fan (new fan) 1st fan and 2nd fan from now on. 3rd fan is the broken one.
At first, I was stupid and forgot to use iCUE to detect the new fan and do stuff with it, so I started messing around with the hardware (like an idiot). Now, at this point, the problem lies ONLY within the software, since when I unplug the 2nd fan and put the 3rd fan in, it lit up. Same with 1st RGB port. This probably meant iCUE wasn't automatically detecting it and I had to open the wizard. If I moved the fans from a port iCUE had set up to a port not set up (this applied to all fans), it would light ONE of the RGB LEDs to a greenish? color and then go dark (this is important). Eventually, I tried plugging the bottom fan into an RGB header on my motherboard...? Why.....? I will never know, it's up there in one of the dumbest things I've done while building my PC and now the bottom fan's RGB cable didn't respond to ANY port I plug it into.
When I finally figured out about the auto-detection wizard, it doesn't detect that fan AT ALL. If I plug in the 1st or 2nd fan to any of the other ports and use the wizard, it detects it in those slots. The 3rd fan will not do anything in any slot. Even outside the wizard, when I switch 1st and 2nd, they both work - 3rd fan stays dark. Remember the bolded above? The 3rd fan never does this anymore (mainly because it doesn't even light up, probably), but The 1st and 2nd ones still do. However, the fan itself works and is IN the iCUE software in dashboard and cooling tab (where I can change its speed); the RGB cable just isn't responsive. I'm fairly sure that, because of my stupidity, the board (as it was ON while I plugged the **** thing into the RGB header) short-circuited it and fried the receiver.
I've deleted all data from iCUE and reinstalled it, forced update drivers, done all kinds of tests in the detection wizard, and overall feel out of ideas.
Is this as hopeless as I think it is? Fried cable and I have to get a new fan/cable, or does anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to spend the time and money to order yet another thing and wait for it. Not sure if I can perform surgery on the cable, but if anyone has simple ideas to fix it, it would be GREATLY appreciated.
