How to Delete Undeletable files with Unlocker.

Have you ever had a file or folder that you just couldn't delete no matter what you tried. Every attempt bought up an error box telling you it was in use, or you didn't have permission even though you were the computer administrator. Maybe a box like this example is familiar?

Help is at hand and this guide will show you how to use "Unlocker" to get rid of those rusted on files.

First a word of caution. Make sure you close all programs before you use this tool to remove any files.

Unlocker is one of several tools available to help with removing locked or otherwise inaccessible files and is very effective at removing them. First you need to download the 1MB file, and if you select to download to the desktop it will make a install icon for you.

You can get the program HERE and Unlocker works on Windows from XP through 10, and on both 32 and 64 bit systems.

Once downloaded double left click the icon and the installation will begin. Unlocker like a lot of other free software comes with the offer of a browser addon, so make sure you deselect the option to install it as shown below. Then click next.

The next windows displays the install options, just accept the defaults and click install.

It will only take a few seconds to install and there will be no outward signs that the program is on your computer. This might be a good time to delete the desktop install icon and file?

We will use the file shown in the picture as an example. Let's say we wish to delete but this box has displayed.

All we have to do is navigate to the file, but this time we right click on it and select Unlocker from the menu. Using the arrow on the drop down box, select delete, then OK.

If Unlocker cannot delete the file immediately it will advise you to reboot, so please do so if requested.

After rebooting the file should be gone, which is the case in this example.

We hope this demonstration of this great free application will help you get rid of your seemingly impossible to delete files. Of course if you have any questions or find you need more assistance to remove a file please feel free to ask in our forums.
