I lent my computer to a friend, now when I turn it on I get "repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour"after 4 hours I shut her down.thinking it would do nothing. So I thought I would just factory reset it but every time I push f10 or any of theF buttons,I just get a high pitch sound.
Help is there anything I can do?
Forgot to mention it's aAcer aspire will 7

Found on the Acer site Using Recovery Management outside of Windows
Use the following steps to start the system recovery:

  1. Restart the computer.
  2. When the Acer logo appears on the screen, press the left Alt, and the F10 keys.
  3. If you are prompted with a Microsoft Windows boot screen, press the Enter key.
  4. After the Acer eRecovery Management application has loaded, select your restore type.
  5. Read the notice, and then click Next when you are ready.
  6. Click Next to begin the restore process. The restore can take anywhere from 10 minutes up to an hour.
  7. Once the restore is complete your computer will load Windows and start installing your drivers and software. Your computer may reboot several times during this process. After everything is complete your computer will be like it was when you first purchased it.
Would also be helpful if you could post if you knew what it was that your friend may have done to the system.

I tried this and when I do alt+f10 my computer screams but it's doing arecovery. I will keep you posted
A great big hug

I just ran to my friend next door and made a recovery disk for 64 bit of which I have.will I lose most of my extras because I have win7 home and they didn't?

I just tried another f10 and got into the recovery and of course it failed but I did manage to write this time.it says
Restore failed -Error code=0x45d(WIMAapply image cannot applyimage:the request could not be performed because of an I/Odevice error.)
Should I try the recovery disk

Could I do a recovery if the same..is a rescue different
No they are not the same.
I suggest that you contact Acer and get a proper set of recovery disk for your system and use those.

A recovery disc is any of various media containing a backup of the original factory condition or a favored condition of a computer as configured by an original equipment manufacturer or an end-user. OEM supplied recovery media are often shipped with computers to allow the user to reformat the hard drive and reinstall the operating system and pre-installed software as it was when it was shipped.

Rescue Disk is a removable disk that can be used to restart or rebuild a computer system that has crashed or been disabled; also called emergency disk, emergency rescue disk.

We own two Acer Aspires with Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit. One is a 722 and the other a V5.
Acer included a way to make the restore/recovery, program and driver disks in the All programs menu. I burned DVDs for both computers when they were new.

If you didn't create them, then I guess you'll need to go here and buy them

You'll have to find the Canadian site.

Note: when you do a restore/recovery, the computer goes all the way back to the way it was when it left the factory. That means if you've owned the computer for 6 years (our 722) then you'll have 6 years of Windows updates to install. OUCH!

You might want to read through this

these are methods to repair. That means you would not have to go all the way to the way the computer was when it left the factory.
