Solved Ram frequency problem (when @3200mhz) with Gigabyte Z170-HD3 motherboard.

I am really dissapointed with Gigabyte as the motherboard data states that ram at 3200mhz is compatible and that is not the response I am getting after spending over $300 upgrading ram.

My motherboard never had an issue running at it's default 2133mhz.
I just bought 64 gb of corsair vengeance rgb pro ddr4 3200mhz ram.
In trying to set the ram frequency to 3200mhz via the xmp profile or using easytune (app available via motherboard support listing on Gigabyte site), all I get are problems:
- Using xmp profile (via bios) , my second monitor will not display correctly (flickers on and off constantly) which means the change in profile has affected the graphics card signal being sent to the monitor. I have tried everything here - changing monitors cables, nothing works, it is definitely the xmp profile causing the problem.
-When I use easyTune to adjust the frequency and reboot, the pc encounters configuartion issues which "are not compatible with the current hardware" -is the message I get when restarting in the bios screen. So it needs to revert to default settings.

Feeling really bummed and ripped off by Gigabyte.

Has anyone else encountered this issue?

It seems as though the motherboard (Z170-HD3) cannot operate at anything beyond 2133mhz (which is clearly what they do not state), in which case I never would have bought the **** thing, or wasted over $300 updgrading Ram !!!

A good thread with suggestions:
how to use easytune to adjust ram:

Let's get some more information:

Download and run speccy.

Once you have ran speccy, follow the instructions to upload a snapshot found here.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

  1. In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.
  2. In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.
  3. Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot dialog box. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

A few issues;

Memory Types DDR4-1866/2133, DDR3L-1333/1600 @ 1.35V

Ram specs for the 6700k, it's not meant for 3200MHz ram, it makes sense that trying to use faster ram with it would cause issues.

BenQ GW2270 (1920x1080@60Hz)
U28D590 (3840x2160@30Hz)

Varying refresh rates and resolutions is known to cause issues, it's worth being aware of.

Another note, you're running a bit low on disk space, 30% free space on your drives is pretty standard for assured smoothness, once again, not your issue, but another thing to be aware of.

Can't thank you enough Pyro. This has saved me alot of leg work!
I wish I would have done more research to find out the cpu also dictates how much I can get out of the memory.
I honestly just brushed past that thought thinking the cpu is easily powerful enough, so of course it would be designed to
also support reasonably fast ram speeds... I know now this is not the case. So I will turn my attention to replacing the cpu.

Disk space >30% for optimal performance: Got it! Many thanks for the tip.
refresh rate - refrain from changing. Got it! Many thanks.

May I ask please if anyone knows a good reference / educational tutorial covering the above topics and helpful info (like that supplied by Pyro) for people wanting to build their own towers like myself? I know of a few but I am sure there are more! Very big thank you to all of you for helping me !

There's a thousand tutorials out there, it's a matter of picking your poison.

Here are some that look similar to when I started learning:

I haven't watched these particular ones in their entirety, so if you have any more questions feel free to start a new topic and ask. :)

Building computers isn't tough if you take your time learning what is what and read the manual/instructions provided by the manufacturer (they know what they're talking about).

As far as the refresh rate, having different refresh rates (or resolutions) can cause performance issues, if this is a gaming rig that is probably more important to you than if it's just a desk rig.

For continuity sake this thread will be closed and marked as solved, but make sure if you have any more questions you ask. This is one of those areas where an ounce of prevention can be worth a pound of cure.
