I am wondering what is this memory with the "R" suffix. See all are advertising NON-ECC UN_Buffered. Ebay item #185383458667 Samsung DDR5 32GB 4800MHz (2x 16GB) PC5-38400R Non-ecc Unbuffered Udimm Memory. They are advertising this as non ecc, unbuffered. It also has 9 chips on the memory, this is the Manufacturers part number. M323R2GA3BB0-CQK X2 . I am confused. here is the other model number in the ad

Samsung M323R2GA3BB0-CQK DDR5-4800 MHz 16GB (1x 16GB) Single Rank x8 PC5-38400R OEM NON-ECC. This ad also has the "R" suffix and I am still a bit confused. This memory has 9 chips also. I need NON-ECC Unbuffered but I am fining to model number PC5-38400R and PC5-38400U. One with the "R" suffix and one with the "U" suffix. Is the "R" suffix better memory or is this registered and if so what is that mena if in NON-ECC Unbuffered.

they are all advertising unbuffered and it has nine chips. Is this registered and if so what does that mean. Will it do some error correcting if registered? I appreciate your help.

Peter thank you for your reply but check this out. Ebay item #185383458667 Samsung DDR5 32GB 4800MHz (2x 16GB) PC5-38400R Non-ecc Unbuffered Udimm Memory. This was the original question
I have a question. My model number for my memory Samsung 8GB DDR5 4800 MHZ 1Rx16 UDIMM DESKTOP RAM MODULE M323R1GB4BB0-CQKOD CL40.
This number when searched on ebay has used this number PC5-38400. Now when I checked eBay there was a r and u suffix for both Non-ECC Unbuffered that is
PC5-38400R and PC5-38400U. Again they are both unbuffered NON ECC. So what is the difference between PC538400R and PC5-38400U. The "R" and "U" suffix meaning. I just want to make sure I get the correct Ram.

This was my answer
  1. Registered or buffered memory, which improves signal integrity (and hence potentially clock rates and physical slot capacity) by electrically buffering the signals with a register, at a cost of an extra clock of increased latency. Those modules are identified by an additional R in their designation, for example PC3-6400R.[30]
  2. Non-registered (a.k.a. "unbuffered") RAM may be identified by an additional U in the designation
from here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DDR3_SDRAM#JEDEC_standard_modules

As noted what motherboard and cpu do you have
