One or two dots of superglue but no more as that ferrule grounds the port.

You did the right thing by checking as a ferrule is intended to stop anything that has even the smallest amount of charge going through it from coming in contact with something that it shouldn`t, you will note that they are only used on ports that are meant to be used when the computer is on, speakers, headphones and mics etc.

You are not and fwiw we volunteer here because we want to help people like your good self

I will try covering your points above the best that I can but will arrange things so that shortest tips are addressed first, the guidance once followed for a while will become second nature to you.

Room temperature should be what you are comfortable with but too warm is more of a problem than if things are cooler, if warm air gets drawn in by cooling fans it only gets hotter as does your hardware whereas continuous cool, clean air being drawn in helps to reduce the internal temps, a good cooling fan set up, good internal cable management and an unrestricted airflow around the case are three must haves.

Dust may look unsightly when on you case or monitor/s but that is easily cleaned with a duster, not so easy to clean is the inside of the case which depending on the climate will on occasion need to be cleaned out, good quality cases have removable dust filters that can be washed and put back

Above all we need to remember that a computer doesn`t normally decide to do things itself, they take instructions from us and that is why 99.99% of computer problems are caused by or could have been prevented by the person that is normally sat in front of it, the latter believe it or not is where you start, prevention.


Prevent your computer from ever being at risk of power issues, this includes losing power which can cause the loss of valuable data that you could be working on and a sudden surge of power that could cause so much damage that the computer gets condemned to the trash, the answer here is a good quality adequate spec UPS with built in surge protection, the specs required varies from user to user so I have just picked a random good brand example here

To your main points now which I fortunately have canned speeches for;

Healthy, clean, and operable.

Always keeping Windows and your AV protection fully up to date is a must.

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive, this also to avoid data corruption.

Please note that storage devices can physically fail if the amount of free storage space is allowed to drop below the required 10 or 20/25% minimum.

Avoid needless driver updates.

Once Windows has been installed, you install the necessary drivers for the MB and other hardware and then leave well alone, drivers should not be allowed to auto update and you should never update any driver/s unless the new drivers are intended to resolve a specific issue that you are having, installing new drivers unnecessarily can actually cause you the very issues that any new drivers are intended to resolve and uninstalling the new drivers may not resolve the problem/s that installing the new drivers has caused.

Depending on priority it can take many months before the driver provider releases any fix and they sometimes do not even bother.

System optimising/registry cleaning tools.

You will not see anything like this recommended on any reputable forum, they are at best a gimmick and at worse a danger to the operating systems registry, it is an old article but the author is still highly respected and tbh Ive not seen it explained better than at the miekiemoes' Blog here

Hope the above goes some way to giving you a bit more confidence in yourself, being smart enough to get some guidance suggests to me that you will be fine but whatever you do, never feel you are being a burden or afraid to ask about anything that your are unsure of.

Edit to add: This just a thought, if you do a lot of online gaming/video calls that require the regular connection/disconnection of mic or headset jacks consider getting your self an external hub, again the one here is just an example and you will no doubt be able to spend more to get better etc.
