my laptop has been doing this thing where every once in a while (seemingly without cause) it won't send audio through any headphones. It will reconise that it has connected. seen as it'll ask what I plugged in, headphones or a speaker, when i click either while i actively have sound playing i can hear that sound for a split second before it cuts out. I have tried most things that I've seen people do (such as: updating driver, reinstalling driver, cleaning the headphone plug, restarting it etc.) I have tested these headphones and they work, the problem also stays even if I plug in a different headphone.
previously it either fixed itself if I just give it time or restarting it has worked (currently it's not working however). I'd very much appreciate any help with this since this has been going on for such a long time.

I use a msi gs75 stealth 95d laptop and windows 10

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the headphones.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

But are the headphones the USB port or standard headphone jack type, this is important to know because USB ports can have different settings such as suspend which turns the port/s off when they have been idle for a set time.

Only really seeing the one thing in Speccy;

Power Profile
Active power scheme: Balanced

You need to change the Windows Power Plan to High Performance or your dedicated GPU will not be able to work properly, Balanced only uses the Intel HD graphics because of the low power available, you having a second screen hooked up will not be helping things either.
