Hello!

Bizarre problem for which I cannot find an answer.
I have an Asus Vevobook Laptop (Model: TP300LA) which states "plugged in, charging", however it's not charging. A cursory search of the web seems to reveal that this is not an uncommon problem and I've read many suggestions that it could be an issue with Windows 10 itself, but I'm not sure (laptop came with Windows 8.1 and, like many others, I went for the free upgrade to Windows 10).

So far I've tried uninstalling/re-installing the Microsoft ACPI items under device manager AND buying a new battery... but no luck.

It was mentioned on one site that it might be a problem with the BIOS, but I daren't update those (not that I even know how) for fear of bricking my laptop... although it's pretty useless now that it's tethered to the socket anyway.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello ConwayMorning,

(laptop came with Windows 8.1 and, like many others, I went for the free upgrade to Windows 10).
After you upgraded did you then install the necessary Windows 10 drivers for the notebook, if not, please do so and start by downloading and installing the chipset drivers first as not doing so can cause all sorts of problems, download from here, you will need to select your model of CPU and OS first.

I can't entirely remember.
Thank you for the link. I downloaded the chipset driver which prompted a re-boot, but my battery issue remains.

Hello again,
Thanks for the link. I restarted my laptop in safe mode as you suggested, however the icon in the bottom-right which shows the level of battery charge is not active in this mode, so I was unable to see the battery level. However I've just restarted and the level is the same as it was previously, so no luck.

Hello ConwayMorning,

Have you checked to see if this is an ASUS power plan setting problem, some info on such settings that ASUS use here

Windows own power plan settings should also be checked if not already.

You are welcome btw :)

Hi! - Sorry, I've been away.

I've investigated the power plans options, but none that would suggest they would ever allow for it to not charge :/
Is that both the ASUS and Windows own power plans to which you refer.

So far I've tried uninstalling/re-installing the Microsoft ACPI items under device manager
In Device Manager, what items are listed under the Batteries tab when you expand it.

In your BIOS do you have the option to enable or disable the following low power mode when off, USB charging when off or USB charger +, if yes, make sure that they are disabled, save any new settings, restart and test.

Well it's the Windows one, I don't seem to have an ASUS battery icon.

- Microsoft AC Adapter
- Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery

Nope :( Only something about "Power Off Energy Saving" which I disabled/re-enabled but didn't make a difference.

The bios is: Aptio Setup Utility Version 2.15.1236. - I don't know if that helps :/

Looks like you havn`t reinstalled the Power4Gear Hybrid utility

Power4Gear Hybrid info here and the utility Download here

Okay so I've reinstalled that software (the OS drop-down wouldn't work for me so I just installed the most recent one - V3.0.8), but it doesn't seem to have changed anything. Further to this the software actually won't save the settings I try and apply.

Bizarrely however, I took my laptop to work today and have plugged it in multiple times and I've just checked my battery and I'm at 78% now - I've been stuck on 48% since I started this thread... It's back to not charging at the moment, even though it says it is. I'm definitely sure that the Power4Gear hasn't affected this though as I noticed the apparent 'increase' in charge before installing the software.

What explanation could there be for the sporadic charging?

Just a standard UK mains. It was plugged in all day today.
At work and at home? Turned on or off?

Official ASUS battery.[/QUOTE]Good some systems have issues if the battery is after market or nor the proper one. Have you tried replacing the charger? Which fixed my charging issue.

EDIT: Is the battery, charger getting warm or hot to the touch when charging?

Yeah, both.

Yeah I wanted to make sure I got an official one just to eliminate the possibility of it being a dodgy 3rd party one.

Well bizarrely my housemate has the same charger, so I borrowed his and that made no difference... I wish it was that simple :/
