Phone disrupts router when connecting to wifi

Good Morning,

I have a router that I have my laptop and a network drive plugged into via ethernet. Everything works fine until I try to connect my Samsung Note 20 to the wifi. Once I try to connect the phone to the wifi, the router keeps resetting and losing connection. It will actually drop the entire connection, including those plugged in via ethernet. As soon as I stop trying to have my mobile phone connect to the router via wifi, the router works fine and I experience no disconnects. Other items such as my Roku and an iPhone 6s+ do not experience this issue when I connect to the wifi. It only happens when I connect my Samsung Note 20.

What would cause this and is assigning an IP for the mobile phone a possible solution? How is that normally done? through the mobile device or the router?

Thank You

while I don't actually know, my first guess would be to change the wifi security settings on the wireless router.
just for testing, remove the encryption type and set it to Open.
then the Samsung should see that network and join it automatically as there is no password.
if that works, at least you can then narrow your troubleshooting efforts.

also check there are no firmware updates for the router.
and software updates for the phone.
