Hi all,

Having a strange issue that has just started happening. When I press Windows, shut down. It goes through the usual windows shut down procedure and my monitor goes down but all my peripherals, lights and fans stay powered on. Have to just unplug at the moment to get my PC to shut down. I have not used my pc in about a month as I have been waiting on a replacement GPU that was RMA as it started artifacting but was still in warranty. Have just replaced with a new one and this issue has started happening (May be completely unrelated) was RTX 3060 straight swapped out.

Have tried every fix I have came across on Google etc. But nothing had helped. Even fully reset my PC and done a fresh Windows install and still happening. Any ideas.

It's a custom gaming PC running on Windows 11

Have tried: (not in this order)

Disabling fast start up

Turned link state management off

Cleaning C drive

Sfc scan

Hibernate off

Power troubleshooter

Womdows update troubleshooter

Full PC reset + Windows re install

Performed a clean boot

Installed latest graphics drivers

Reset BIOS to defaults

This is driving me insane!

Thanks in advance,

Lewis.

If you remove the peripherals before shutdown does the pc switch off?
Is ’choose what the power button does’ set to switch off or standby?
The power button is set to 'shut down'.
Still the same.

Also if I unplug it at the wall then plug it back in the fans and lights power up straight away. Only thing thay switches them off is the rocker switch on the PSU or switching off at wall.

Sounds more like a faulty power or reset button rather than a software issue.

Please provide information about your computer, is it a custom build or brand name such as Dell or HP, if a brand name, provide the model name or series number (not serial) if a custom build post the brand and model name or number for the CPU, MB, the RAM (including the amount) add on video card if one is used and the PSU (power supply unit) providing these details will enable folk to better assist you.

Can I ask that you do not quote every reply as we have to read the full post to make sure nothing gets missed,, thanks.

Also enter bios and reset to defaults

Yeah sure. Its a custom gaming PC
Intel core i5 9400F
NVIDIA Rtx 3060
Netac RAM DDR4 16gb
GameMax RPG Rampage 500W PSU

to the post after I have tried resetting bios to default. Thanks!

Hiw would I go about testing the power button. Just opened yp the case and looked and seems to be OK. Pressing it shuts down the windows just not the PC

Missing from the parts list;

The MB details.

The number of RAM sticks.

GameMax RPG Rampage 500W PSU

Wouldn`t trust this as a doorstop, not Gold efficiency rated, cant produce the claimed 500W and even if it was a true 500W PSU it is too weak to power an RTX 3060 GPU, Nvidea`s own card requires 550W, specs here other third party cards may require more, the ASUS here for example requires a minimum of 650W PSU powering the system.

Which power supply do you need?

So if you remove the peripherals before shutting down the problem remains?
Is there any setting within the BIOS which may be overriding the power button?
Did the problem immediately begin after swapping the GPU? Have you used DDU to cleanly remove the old drivers Before installing the newer ones?

Yeah that is correct about the peripherals. I'm not sure what to look for in the bios I am pretty new to PCs in all honesty. I have not tried DDU I will go try that. Yes my PC sat unused for about a month waiting on a new GPU and then this problem started right after I hooked uo my new one.

I'm not sure what you mean by MB. There is 2 8gb ram sticks. Yeah OK that is the PSU that came with the PC I bought from fierce PC about a year ago. I will look onto upgrading for sure. Think that could be the issue? The PSU?

Above all else, any warranty left on the PC, the junk PSU is something that the seller is liable for and if the weak PSU has damaged any hardware they are liable for that as well, you have the Nvidea specifications to prove that the PSU is too weak.

Edit to add: It was most likely the PSU that killed your first GPU.

Also if I have everything unplugged and off. Then plug the main power cable in and hit the rocker switch on PSU everything inside case power's on before I even touch the main PC 'power on' button. Does this imply the PSU?

Because the company I dealt with the after care support was a nightmare trying to get hold of them and getting any form of response. I do not want to wait another month or more before I have a pc again. If its worth trying I would rather try it myself first.

Do you think it's worth trying the PSU after that post about the rocker switch or will it not be the issue?

If there is still warranty on the PC you have voided it the minute that you start tinkering, entirely up to you if you don`t mind that but we are obliged to make you aware of the fact.

Only two things will cause a PC to start up as soon as the wall switch has been put into the on position, a faulty switch and a short circuit, if it were the latter the hardware would be damaged and the PC not normally work at all

The test for checking the case switch involves disconnecting the case switches from the front panel header on the MB and then shorting out the + and - pins on the MB using either a small flat bladed screwdriver or a paperclip bent into a U shape. page ten of the MBs user manual here says that pins 6 and 8 are the relevant pins.
