Solved PC restarts out of the blue

Best to address one at a time.

Found the following for the first Event ID reply #2 of Vaio 7 here requires a registry fix so if you follow the guide be sure to create a new system restore point and back up important data first;

Now Event Id 10016 can be easily fixed. When you look @ the Event Viewer description there is a CLSID and an AppID involved.
You will have to open regedit with admin rights, navigate to HKeyClassesRoot\CLSId and when you find the id in question, right click then Permissions and temporarily change owner from TrustedInstaller to Administrators.
Same for HKEYLocalMachine\Appid.
Now open Component Services, Computer, My computer, DCOM config and find ( from the Registry keys above) the Description, it should be Runtime Broker, at least it was for me, if it's other then do it for the exact Component service, right click then Properties then Security tab, then open the Launch and Activation permissions Edit button and depending on the Event Viewer description if it's Local Service or System, click Add, add one of the two and enable the box " Local Activation".
Now go back to regedit and for the CLSID & Appid changed ownerships revert back to default TrustedInstaller.
(You should write NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller to revert ownership to default).
Reboot and Error 10016 is gone forever.

Just had to reinstall Windows 10 build 1607 again, I have the defer feature update option ticked but the build 1709 update downloaded and installed while I was at work and left me with no functional wireless device :(

I have checked mine i have a recovery/re-install option on my pc, Not having a fully functioning internet tho,is a no go here.. I have to have all. I did change out the default for the pdf to Adobe reader. I guess time will tell and after the last restart and what the event viewer was telling me,i am changing out all my older hardware that is connected or connecting the pc. That event was back showing hardware errors again.

My recovery partition is pre Windows 10 so I had to upgrade from 8.1 to 10 again, it`s so annoying as everything else is fine other than there not being any compatible drivers for the wireless device in 1709 :(

This is why I still use Windows 7 currently on my main system as I still find Windows 10 too intrusive and obnoxious with its forced upgrades that seem to happen whether you want them installed on your machine or not.

Anyway @vger did you update your motherboards BIOS to the latest version? I assume you are not overclocking any components?

Lets see what is starting up with your machine.

Please download Autoruns. After you download the zipped folder on your desktop, right click the zipped folder and click Extract All. After the folder has been extracted open the regular folder. Run the autoruns.exe program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When you open the program, click the Logon Tab and then post a screenshot of all the startup entries on the Logon Tab in your next reply.

With your PC restarting itself, that could indicate an issue with the power supply on the system that is starting to fail especially if the issue has been growing more frequently.

You updated your NVidia GT 610 video drivers already from the NVidia website?

Do the restarts happen when the computer is sitting there idling on the desktop?

Would that be the same Evan aka the champion of all things Windoze

Levity apart, fully understand that MS should not be expected to provide drivers for older OEM computers such as my aging Sony Vaio but what hacks me off is the fact that putting a check in the Defer Feature Updates box is totally ignored, even when selecting the metered download option, the notebook is fully functional up until the 1709 update so why replace it!

Just a btw Windows 10 Pro cost me the equivalent of US $255+/Aus $322+ which is hardly a tip that you would pass the bar person unless you are a millionaire ;)

Ok Evan i will get on that ASAP.

So after i changed the default pdf reader and for some reason the MS trouble shooter was wanting me to engage the screen saver (done) i have not had any restarts, knock on wood. Still in the process of changing out some old hardware that is connected to the pc.

Well if you think that's bad just see what other shenanigans Microsoft is doing, Hey Microsoft, Stop Installing Apps On My PC Without Asking.

Sounds good Veeg. Just keep us posted.
