Solved PC only boots with both RAM sticks after booting with 1

If I start the PC with both 4GB sticks first, it gets stuck in a loop of almost booting up and shutting down again.
I have to boot it up with only one stick first ,then shut it down and boot again with both.
After this the PC works like normal, until I shut it down or put it in sleep-mode.

It doesn't matter which one I put in first to boot it up with a single stick Swapping the slots doesn't seem to help.
A RAM-test I did showed 0 Errors.

Has anybody heard of a problem like this before?

This is an odd one :unsure:

A RAM-test I did showed 0 Errors.

It depends on how the RAM was tested as to how reliable the results are, the method that I suggest takes many hours and not only tests each RAM stick but also each stick of RAM in each memory slot, time consuming but so much more accurate.

For now;

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.



To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open
 
Right now I have them in 2 and 4 (from the mobo).
I think I tested the other slots aswell a while back, but I'm suddenly not so sure.
I'll try them again tomorrow afternoon(EU), when I get back to my PC.

Noticed a couple of things in Speccy but for now will stick with what may be causing the odd RAM behaviour.


Power Profile Active power scheme: Höchstleistung High Performance is a form of overclocking that most often causes instability and overheating that leads to instability, change this setting to Balanced in the Windows Power Plan.


Physical Memory
Memory Usage: 50 % You have high memory usage for a computer that is not under any load.
Total Physical: 7.86 GB
Available Physical: 3.86 GB

Voltage
CPU CORE: 0.360 V
MEMORY CONTROLLER: 2.040 V Some voltage readings are missing but what we can see suggests that there is too much voltage going to the memory slots,

VIN2: 2.040 V
VIN3: 2.064 V
VIN5: 1.764 V
VIN6: 1.548 V
VIN7: 1.704 V

The memory controller and at least two of the VIN numbers above should be reading no more than 1.5V, the high voltage readings could be as a result of you using the High Performance power plan setting or any overclocking that you may have done.

If you are overclocking, stop this and restore the Optimized Defaults in the BIOS, this should restore the voltages back to what they should be, if not we will need to check them another way.

Can you post the brand and model name or number of the PSU + tell us how old it is.

Right now I have them in 2 and 4 (from the mobo).

If the above means the second and fourth slot away from the CPU then they are in the correct slots.

I'm using the LC power lc6550 v2.2
It's a little over 3 1/2 years old now.


I changed the power-plan to balanced and loaded the defaults in the BIOS.
I think this might have solved it! :D
I could boot my PC multitiple times now. (The normal way, without that ram-changing-stuff)

NB: Some info on the voltages in Speccy, the readings can sometimes be anomalous and quite often this is caused by a MBs own monitoring software or sensor chips on the MB which are monitored by the BIOS.
