Solved PC lag after water spillage on extension cable

I strongly suspect that this is a coincidence as if there was a problem with the extension lead the system would not power up at all, not a gamer myself so not good with anything to do with FPS but from years of experience I have learned that poor FPS have three common causes, a poor internet connection (this includes security issues caused by AV protection) a weak PSU which in turn can cause overheating and last but not least a bottleneck which can be caused by low spec and/or low storage space on the HDD/SSD.

If the computer is a desktop can you post the brand and model name or number of the power supply (PSU).

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

There is one thing that is possibly worse than using a known poor quality brand of PSU and that is using one that is unheard of, for brands of PSU to trust and brands to avoid please refer to the links in my sig, the only place that I found this brand was on the PSU database and what I found is not good, any 600W PSUs made by Xilence have long been discontinued and possibly because they were so bad, two out of the three 600W PSUs that they made could only produce 420W (one of these was labelled Gaming ) and the third model also a rather pathetic 504W, this PSU is slowly but surely killing your GPU.

Opened your Speccy url and noticed two issues straight away, you can address these while we look at the rest of the report;

Having more than one AV installed on your computer is bad, it will slow down the computer, cause internet connection problems and leave you with no AV protection at all if they cancel each other out as they fight for resources.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection. Technically, Microsoft Security Essentials has not been renamed Windows Defender, or combined with it in Windows 8, 8.1 and 10.

If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

You can uninstall Avast in the Control Panel but should you have any problems see Avast clean removal info here Please create a new system restore point first.

Once Avast has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Power Profile
Active power scheme: High performance

While we look at the rest of the Speccy report, I suggest that you change the Windows Power Plan to Balanced, High Performance is a form of overclocking that is known to cause stability and overheating issues and a weak PSU such as the one that you have will get hotter and weaker the more that you use it.

No problem, pity that I had to give you such bad news about the PSU which btw you 100% need to change, your GPU requires the system to be powered by a good quality brand 500W minimum PSU that has at at least 33 amps on the +12V rail and an appropriate supplemental power dongle from the PSU, for high end GPUs such as yours the PSU should be Gold efficiency rated and from a brand such as Corsair, EVGA or Seasonic, the longer the warranty period the better the quality the PSU will be.

Also of note in Speccy, SSDs can typically manage temperatures better but your SSD has a temperature warning, a mechanical HDD would normally start locking up at 50 °C so you are lucky to have the SSD, this could be being caused by the poor power supply but at the same time it could be due to poor internal cooling.

How many cooling fans do you have besides the CPU, GPU and PSU internal cooling fan.

Is your 8GB of RAM a single stick or two 4GB sticks.

Can you post a link to the model of PSU that you presently have.

Are the fans two at the front drawing in cool, clean air across the HDD and SSD and one at the rear to expel the hot air from inside of the case, this is called the pull/push method of cooling and considered by many to be the most effective form of cooling.

Having only the one stick of RAM means that it is only working in single channel as opposed to dual channel mode, what this means, the RAM is only working at 50% of the speed that it is capable of, your CPU requires RAM that is capable of running at 2667MHz according to AMD here (this means 2666MHz to you and me) and because it is only working in single channel you are only getting 1333MHz which is causing a bottleneck, Ryzen CPUs need fast RAM and grumble if they don`t have it.

Yep, new PSU and additional stick of RAM, use the Crucial system scanner tool to what is suggested.

RAM when possible should always be purchased in matching pairs, mixing brands works out ok sometimes but at other times not, mixing the spec of RAM is asking for trouble.

So as to avoid any possible conflicts you should whenever possible always get the exact same RAM as which you already have.

When purchasing RAM, likewise you should when possible purchase RAM that has been tested and approved by the maker of the MB, see the memory support list here Crucial do a 3000MHz RAM that is on the list.

Do you have a link to where you will be making any purchase/s, we can check whats available, specs and prices etc, those Seasonic PSUs both only had a seven year warranty, we could do with looking for a ten year warranty but only if the price is right.

Seasonic Focus GX 80 PLUS Gold Netzteil, Modular - 550 Watt not sure why but the site at your link say it has a two year warranty but having used these PSUs I know that Seasonic provide a ten year warranty, you can confirm this here click on the orange 1000W drop down tab on the right for the 550W info.

Best RAM I could find G.SKILL F4-3200C16D-16GIS G.Skill Aegis F4-3200C16D-16GIS matches the specs on the support list.
