Switch on and occasionally it will fire up,but the moment you attempt to use it shuts down.I get very few friendly blue screens, but the Pc will freeze without warning and when it does it can take hours before it restarts.
Ive run the normal malware, spyware checks, noting shows.

Occasionally it will start and run as if it were brand new!!

Now Getting to the point of frustation and very tempted to run factory default reset ? But do know the headache of resetting all programmes etc,so reluctant to do??

When was the last time you cleaned the dust ouf of the system?
What do the Error logs show when the system crashes?
Occasionally it will start and run as if it were brand new!!
For how long?
Run CHKDSK using Command Prompt

Please go HERE and download the portable version of Speccy. Save it to somewhere you can find, locate the file and as it comes as a Zip file use your favorite unzip application to decompress it. Open the newly created folder and double left click Speccy.exe if you have a 32 bit system or Speccy64.exe if yours is 64bit. If you are not sure what your system is click HERE.

Speccy will open and after a short wait will display a summary of your system specs.
  1. Click on the file menu.
  2. Then click Publish snapshot.

A dialogue box will ask you to confirm, select yes

Another dialogue box will open
  1. Click Copy to Clipboard.
  2. Then click Close.

Now that your link has been copied please paste it into your next post. It should look something like the example below:)

BTW: once you have finished with speccy and no longer want it removing it is easy because it is a portable app with no install. Simply delete the downloaded file and folder you created when you decompressed it.

Think!!! Your problem could be hardware and no amount of formatting, resetting etc will fix a hardware problem. I see too many posts of people doing a clean install of Windows and still having the same issues because the time wasn't spent figuring out if the problem was hardware or software.

First you have to determine if it is hardware.
1. Is the power supply going bad? (I have a spare power supply that I can hook up outside the case just to help determine power issues.)
2. Is the computer overheating?
3. How is the health and available space on the hard drive?
There are other things to look at but this is a start.

pc Cleaned every 6 months.

When stable will run all day.

Has taken over 12 attempts to start and get this off to you

Have you cleaned the power buton?
Made sure it is properly connected to the Motherboard?
While you are in there make sure every thing is connected properly and seated (data cables and power) DO NOT remove heat-sinks!!

Have you tried what @plodr in Post # 3 and what were the results?

also wouldn't hurt to throw in a sfc /scannow from an elevated command prompt for good measure.
Can you provide more details of use thanks

Can you provide more details of use thanks
See if this helps

Right click on the Start Menu
(you may also press the windows key + X)
Select Command Prompt Admin
(OR depending on the Ten Release)
Select Powershell Admin
when which ever on comes up type
sfc /scannow
Run this command more than once it may not pick every thing up on the first try.

Will I have to select 32 or 64 (My system is mainly 64)
When scan is selected it scans using 32??

Having run all the checks as requested, plus giving PC a good clean (although it wasnt too bad),it would appear that chkdsk came out tops,as at the moment it hasnt let me down once, starting clean, without fault,so thanks guys I think (hope) we can call this solved!
