Hi, recently my pc started to shut down, and a few secs later coming back to life :D, this happened whenever I play a game that demands more power, before this I could run games on Max rez without problems, now I can't even do them on Low rez because my pc just shuts down after a few minutes/hours (random like I said, depends on the game) (also it shuts down whenever I get into more detailed zones in the game even on low rez) . I`ve read a few posts with similar problems and most of them say that it`s the PSU fault, I`m not quite sure, because I don`t want to make a decision to change one part or another before I know which one is faulty. Also, I started to see stutters when watching Youtube of Fb or whatever videos, it doesn`t get stuck but its kinda annoying and nonstop (Something that helps is the power options through Windows, when I put it on High performance it's a bit better with videos). I`ve tried to look into this and I think it`s not a heat problem because whenever I start a stress test (f.e FurMark) my pc just shuts off instantly or in a few seconds, and I tried to look into temps while I played my games and it seemed normal. I play everything in 1440p because I`ve changed my monitor and for a while (like 3-4 months) it was ok, so I don`t think it`s because of that. So I`m really lost on what should I do and thanks for the help :)

Also, my pc specs are (if you need something more I`ll provide it :) )

Sorry but what you describe are classic signs of overheating and one of the devices that can be prone to overheating is the PSU which you have no way of monitoring the temperatures of, the PSU that you have has a thermal sensor which will power down the PSU/computer when it`s thermal sensor is triggered, at around 40C.

You need to change this back to Balanced as the HP setting is a form of OCing that causes overheating and instability, the overheating could be inside of the PSU as well btw.


Download Speedfan and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows. The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.

If you are running on a vista machine, please go to where you installed the program and run the program as administrator.

So that we have a comparison to Speedfan, download, run and grab a screenshot of HWMonitor (free).

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... after typing in any response you have... click on Upload a File to add the screenshot.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

I usually do use Balanced, because it only helps with YT video, not heavier loads.

Please use the method provided to take the screenshots and one at a time, the ones provided are so small we cannot view the information on them.

Everything that we can see looks ok which reinforces the suspicions about the PSU possibly overheating, could you upload the bottom part of HWMonitor for us.

The CPU temp in Speedfan is obviously an anomaly so please disregard it.

Got an early start so going offline now, be back after work tomorrow.

Everything looks ok there as well; for you to do between today and tomorrow;

Assuming hat you are running Windows 10, take and upload an expanded screenshot of Disk Manager.


Access Disk Management via Run.

Press the Windows+R keys to open Run, type diskmgmt.msc in the empty box then press OK.

Grab and upload an expanded screenshot of Disk Manager for us.


Download and run CrystalDisk info standard edition from here

Run the program, grab any screenshots and attach to your next reply for us.

You are seriously low on free storage space on the C: drive/partition and need to free up some space, see canned explanation below.

For Windows to be able to run efficiently and to be able to update you need to have between 20 and 25% of the partition or drive available as free storage space at all times, if you don`t you risk Windows becoming corrupt or not being able to update which puts you at risk of malware attack.

Data only storage devices should not be allowed to get any lower than 10% of free storage space of the full capacity of the drive/partition on the drive.

Uninstall as many unused programs, games, videos and music files as you can and get yourself another means of backing up to, post back when you have between 20 and 25% free storage on the C: drive/partition and we can go from there.

Have you restarted the computer since freeing up the space, if yes, any sudden shutting down since doing so, at 7% of free space on the C: drive I would not be surprised if Windows has become corrupted.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

If you need to save the results as a txt file can you please edit out your Windows product key before uploading the information here.

Can I ask from where you obtained the Windows 10 media and subsequent Microsoft product key that would be needed to legitimately install Windows on this computer, I don`t believe in beating around the bush and would much rather come right out and say that this version of Windows does not appear to be legitimate :(

It`s not legit, my friend gave me a flash drive with windows on it to reinstall whenever I feel like it. I understand that can cause problems but everything was fine for 2-3 years

Thank you for confirming that Windows is not legit but I beg to differ that it has been fine and that is why Windows has never been allowed to update since it was installed on 2018-11-05 and you have used Avast AV rather than Windows own built in AV Windows Defender which btw is now more preferable than Avast is.

As per the PCHF Terms and rules here that we all agreed to abide by when applying to become a member, no assistance can or will be offered to members who have non legitimate software on their computer, it is not only illegal for us to help you but also a futile task trying to fix an operating system that is cracked, corrupt or infected with malware.

This thread will be closed as per the PCHF Terms and rules here but should you decide that you would like to get yourself a legitimate version of Windows installed start a new thread and someone will help you there.
