PC Audio and Video Stutter

Status
Not open for further replies.
This is copied and pasted from my forum post I just made on tomshardware.com, so I used a thread there as a reference.

So I've seen a few threads that appear to be having the same issue such as this one which is explaining my issue exactly. This began roughly one week ago with my video and audio losing sync while I watch any streaming service, but I could refresh the page and fix it for around 15 minutes before I had to do another refresh. Just a few days ago, the issue escalated to stuttering. When I turn on or restart my computer, the issue isn't there but gradually gets worse . As long as there is no audio or video, my computer will run fine. When I am only playing music on spotify though, I have no issues unless I am running something else with video and audio. Video games become unplayable after 30 minutes to an hour of playing from constant audio stuttering and sounding robotic, and video stuttering with frame drops at the same time; they are definitely correlating. I recently factory reset my computer, with the first thing installed being the antivirus, Bitdefender, so it is highly unlikely that it is caused by malware or viruses. In the thread I posted above, the user said they were able to fix their system by removing their pci adapter driver and using an ethernet cable instead. I don't feel this is likely in my case though because I am already using an ethernet cable, and when disabling my wireless adapter, nothing changed. I did have Driver Easy installed but don't think I actually installed any drivers through it but rolled back recent installs anyway to be safe, and reinstalled drivers through Alienware's SupportAssist program. Additionally, I also completely uninstalled and reinstalled the driver for my NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, so that shouldn't be the issue either. To check for hardware damage, I used both SupportAssist and Hardware Diagnostics through BIOS. I have not noticed any issues through task manager either, with my CPU only running a max of 40% and GPU reaching a high of 79 degrees celcius while playing. I'd be inclined to say it is a software issue, but I am just about lost at this point. Any help at all would be much appreciated, and I am happy to try any suggestions or answer any questions. Thank you, and I apologize for the length of this.

If it is helpful at all, here's some info on my computer:
Alienware Aurora R11
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10700F CPU @ 2.90GHz 2.90 GHz
16 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER

There are several things that we can check while waiting for others to post.

Is anything over clocked.

Has been happening on some streams I have been watching and moderate on Twitch as well.

What are you ISP speed showing when this happens and how many devices are connected at the time this is happening?

Driver Easy
FYI: IS CRAP WARE AND SNAKE OIL you should ALWAYS get you drivers from the system manufacture or hardware manufacture.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

Include the make and model of the Power Supply Unit if this is a Desktop.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

See if running the system in Clean Boot reveals anything.

Hello, thanks for the reply, and while gathering the information with speccy, I made it through a 10 minute youtube video without any issues but am still going to respond because I haven't had extensive success yet and will not try playing video games again until tomorrow likely after you read this. And I did remove Driver Easy and hopefully rolled back all drivers I possibly updated using it after realizing it was a stupid program to download. My current drivers have been downloaded from dell themselves, and I also just installed a new windows update right before watching the youtube video referenced above, if you have any idea if that is a potential fix or not. Because it was running fine, I couldn't get any important information from IPS speed test, but I did run one before and clocked 7.96 mbps download and 92.18 mbps upload (college internet). Here is my speccy link: http://speccy.piriform.com/results/bQjNOTwdEuxPt383CTxdFPb. Thank you once again, and I will be looking forward to your reply.

Can you post the speed test information.
Sounds about right for College speeds they do throttle them since there are several students and staff using it. So there could be part of you issue right there.
Plus for other security reasons.

Please stop typing these as one solid paragraph it makes it hard to read.

Does this happen when you watch movies and or listen to music that is on the system and not online?

Is Bitdefender paid or free?

Depending on the settings this could be causing issues sine it will scan everything incoming.

Windows 8, 8.1 and 10 come with an improved Windows Defender, it offers the same real-time anti-virus/anti-malware protection as Microsoft Security Essentials. Windows Defender also shares the same malware signature definitions as Microsoft Security Essentials, and Forefront Endpoint Protection.

]If any AV product that you have is a paid for version you should always make sure that you have a copy of the product key kept somewhere safe just in case you ever wish to reinstall it.

Bitdefender removal tools here

Important

If you stick with only Windows Defender, once any other AV has been correctly uninstalled, check to see if Windows Defender has auto enabled and allow it to update and carry out a full scan of your computer.

Firstly, I apologize for the long paragraphs and I will discontinue using them.

Yesterday on another forum, a user suggested safe booting my computer and it worked without issues or hours, but today the issue reappeared without me changing the boot settings back.

Watching a youtube video with the audio and video stutter clearly there, my results on speedtest showed 86.41 mbps download and 92.1 mbps upload.

With my ethernet cable unplugged and wifi turned off, spotify doesn't appear to have any stuttering while it does when connected. I do have a laptop though which isn't encountering stuttering, and is not connected through ethernet.

Even through the dell website, I cannot see specifically what psu I have, all it lists it as is a 550w Power Supply. So my best guess is the standard alienware prebuilt power supply.

Bitdefender is payed for and does not require a product key, only my login. I also have Bitdefender on my laptop and have not encountered another similar issue on it yet.

Sorry for taking a while to respond, but thank you.

Makes things easier to read and follow and thank you.

You would have to remove the case cover and look at the sticker on the power supply.
Here is one thing that I see the display card you have according to the speccy report, requires a 650W Recommended.

Does the same thing happen weather the Ethernet or WiFi is connected?
Which I believe you stated both.

Have you tried resetting your network settings?

Tried a different browser?

Hello, I had a thread on here that was closed due to me not responding, this is the link for reference: https://pchelpforum.net/t/pc-audio-and-video-stutter.68586/#post-130338

Before jumping to conclusions, I wanted to give it a few days to ensure it was actually fixed which it appeared to be.

After opening my computer case and checking for a sticker on my power supply, I still do not see one. It is not mounted on the bottom like in most other cases, so I am able to check everywhere on it and I still cannot see a sticker anywhere for information on it.

The issue persists whether I am on wifi or ethernet. When disconnected from both, I have tested however I could with just spotify and the stuttering didn't appear to be there.

The reason I did not respond is because resetting my network setting clears the stuttering up until I turn of my computer. For a few days, I had no stuttering even after shutting my computer down and starting it again. Soon though, every time I started my computer I would start developing stuttering again until I reset my network settings, and it was fine for that session until I turn off my computer.

I have not tried any other browsers, but stuttering is apparent on apps as well such as games and spotify.

Any ideas? Thank you.

I did not ever uninstall Bitdefender, the most I ever did was disable it.

I did have it for a while before the stuttering, and I also have it on my laptop with no issues at all

The only difference between my laptop and desktop is that one is running wifi and the other ethernet. They both are running through college internet and have bitdefender, but only one has encountered any issue.

And something I would like to note is that I am non longer encountering the stutter when I restarted my computer after the last forum post. I was going to make sure the stuttering was still happening before I would delete bitdefender then restart after to see if that changed it. I tested a game and left youtube running for a while to draw it out but still didn't.

Before, it was constant, but now it almost seems like an off and on thing which puzzles me.
