I'm using OpenOffice with Win 7 and it keeps crashing and going through the document recovery mode. Today it locked up and I had to re-start the PC. Can anyone offer any advice on how to fix the problem, or should I try another office suite?

Thanks for your help.

if you did want to stick with OpenOffice, what have you tried to fix it?

did you have the latest version?
is it OpenOffice or LibreOffice that wants .NET suite as well - so check that angle.
try uninstalling, cleaning all traces (Revo Uninstaller Free or a removal tool if there is one), rebooting and installing again.

another free one I've been using on my Linux rig is FreeOffice and I see they do a Windows version.

I haven't tried anything yet. I searched for some specific help but found nothing useful, so I posted here. I've found a lot of useful advice here in the past.

It's not the latest version, because the last time I upgraded, my files lost their formatting and I don't want to risk that again. I have some files I've spent many hours on. If I re-install it I'm going to get the latest version so I don't want to do that either.

Since there don't seem to be any fixes for the specific problem, I'll try one of the alternatives suggested here.

Thanks for your help.

Have tried just about all of them, Kingsoft/WPS office used to have a good free office suite, never ever had an issue with Free Office sending crap. No matter what I tried kept going back to Libre Office and now prefer it even over MS's bloated expensive carp. I believe Libre used to have issues with large spreadsheets which apparently is now in the past. Other spreadsheet users would know better about that than I though.

So I've just downloaded LO, and it has French as the default UI language, probably because I have the French version of Win7. That's the only option. So I looked at the help and found a language pack which I downloaded, but that didn't change anything. So I downloaded LO again but with an option for English as the UI language, and French is still the only option for the UI. Does anyone have any idea what to do?

Thanks for any help you can offer.
