Received another UPDATE to Win10 Christmas Eve
(Must have been my present!)
It installed - but now :-

Cant get into start menu
Documents have been moved from previous location folders
Cant search for them easily as search function doesnt work
@ key is at shift no 2
" is on @ key
Is it Microsoft comedy hour again??

I came on here after last update issue for advice which you kindly gave and finally was working OK

and now have spent best part of 7 hours trying to repair again with no luck wharsoever and loads of things I need to get out!
It sure aint funny
Any advice other than hit this "brick" with an hammer?

Ps -Whilst I had set up System restore points - cant get access to that either WOW !!

sounds like part of your problem is related to your region settings, in particular it thinks you have a British keyboard.
go to PC Settings, Time & Language, Region & Language, check they are set to your requirement.

clicking start has no effect and the screen doesnt have the tiles on just icons on left hand side (I thought that screen came on auto on log in -always been there since initial win 10 download
when up date operation started it said that files and folders would stay where they were

now if I go into pc documents, music and pictures etc theyre empty !! seems i miight have lost everything
have backed up some but not everything
cant access settings

ms office not in list of prog icons though I use regularly
previously set up restore points function for events like this on update and it says Ihavent got that facility

totally *****off at moment
std docs/templates/ recent holiday pics all missing or hidden
have got e-mail and internet wow ( but in that I cant access default function to make firefox default browser -it keeps asking me -answer yes - but then nothing happens says go to settings --but cant !
I honestly wish I`d never heard of win10!!

Have you checked for your missing data in the C:\Windows.old folder?

If you upgraded to build 1709 of Windows 10, you always have the option to revert back to a previous build if you want to go that route.

If you want to try to repair your current version of Windows 10 run through my tutorial in this link and see if that helps, How to repair Windows 8 or Windows 10.

Hi Evan
Had some jobs to get sorted so in fact contacted Microsoft support in the end . I had suggested a system restore function as all was working OK prior to update but she said that they (MSoft) have in their infinite wisdom removed that facility !! (The mind boggles!!) But I tried and sure enough it didnt give me a restore point before the update!

A young lady carried out a remote operation whereby she created a new user (admin) account and by using that I now have (as far as I can tell so far ) a functional PC
The only prob I know about is that (SHIFT 2) gives me @ and (SHIFT @) gives me " and (SHIFT 3) gives me # instead of pound sign
Can you help please as I am used to where they were located from the time I used a keyboard??

Re post no 2 I'm getting confused - sorry but as I live in UK and want the pound sign where it is on my keyboard and @ sign on correct key on keyboard , shouldn't English UK keyboard be the one I want? - instead of them being the opposite way round?

Ahh, your ARE in the UK, then you are right, you do want English UK keyboard.
what Languages do you have listed in Control Panel, Languages?
make sure there is only one, and it is English(United Kingdom).
