Solved Noob Dad: Which System For My Son?

Status
Not open for further replies.
It is right before Christmas and Im scrambling to learn as much as I can about gaming pc's before buying one for my son. He's 11 yrs old, big Fortnite and COD player. My main concern is getting him a good, solid gaming pc that is as close to future proof as possible. I'm only buying from Costco and have narrowed it down to 2 pc's. Can you guys please tell me if there is anything that makes a clear advantage either way between these 2? Thank you very much!

iBUYPOWER CO900iV2 Gaming Desktop - 9th Gen Intel Core i7 - GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER - Windows 10

Lenovo LEGION T730 Gaming Desktop - Intel Core i7-9700K - GeForce RTX 2070

Welcome to PCHF Martyg713,

Any guidance we can offer is limited I`m afraid as we can only go off the specs that are available at the links and the only things that we have hard facts on are the CPUs and GPUs.

The Lenovo is the better of the two going off the CPU and GPU specs, see benchmarks here and here

Parts that we cannot comment on that are important are the MB as we do not know how many memory, PCI-E or SATA slots, the PSU as we do not know the brand or quality and performance of the PSU and the IBUYPOWER RAM as we do not know if it is a single 16GB stick or two 8GB sticks, if only a single 16GB stick it will only work in single channel as opposed to dual channel mode.

Last but not least there were no bad reviews for the Lenovo at the link but there was for the IBUYPOWER.

Thanks for the reply! I really appreciate you taking the time to check them out for me. True, based on the reviews the Lenovo is the clear winner. I seem to have fallen into this rabbit hole of "only $100 more gets me this" over and over. Lol. I'm seriously over budget at this point but pretty sure this is the end of the line for me. Once again, thank you for your time. Hope your Thanksgiving is a good one!

You are welcome and have yourself a great Thanksgiving (y)

Christmas is a costly time of year and if you are able to save $100 but get the best specs it makes perfect sense to go down that route.

Edit to add: For me the Lenovo is worth the extra $100.
