Solved NexusFont Error Message 4 invalid names information

Status
Not open for further replies.
I am a new user of NexusFont and can't seem to find any information about this error: error 4 invalid names information. (See screenshot.) When I installed it, it automatically listed most of my installed fonts, but a few of them were listed in an alert window as having failed to load due to this error. I have looked at several of the fonts in question, but I can't determine anything unusual about those font names. If anyone has any insight into how to get those fonts to load, that would be most helpful. UPDATE: I attempted to rename the fonts in FontForge, but FF doesn't seem to recognize that they are fonts. All of them are .otf files. The bottom left screenshot shows one of the fonts in the Fonts folder, but on the right, the alphabetical list clearly doesn't show that font.

\appdata\local\microsoft\windows\fonts is not a location I've seen used before for fonts.
usually it's \windows\fonts

also, never seen a .OTF extension for fonts, only ever .TTF

what OS are you using?

and why use the NexusFont font manager, what does it do for you that Windows does do naturally?

Windows 11, and the location of the fonts folder was set by default (brand new laptop). OTF is OpenType Font. They are similar to TrueType Fonts, but they usually have smaller file sizes. I have both - most of my older font files are TTF. There are some other benefits to OTF, but for most users, those aren’t important. NexusFont recognized and installed most of the OTF files I added, and I can’t tell what is different about the few that it didn’t. I like NexusFont because I can use custom tags to filter my fonts, which will be very helpful. So, any suggestions regarding the error message? Thanks

no info on the actual error.
the message doesn't help at all.
my guess would be NexusFont can't handle something about those particular font files.

do they have a support centre you can reach out to?

@phbreedlove - The font files need to be placed in the C:\Windows\Fonts folder.

For others that do not recognize the OTF file extention.

What are .OTF files?

A file with . otf extension refers to OpenType font format. OTF font format is more scalable and extends the existing features of TTF formats for digital typography. Developed by Microsoft and Adobe, OTF combines the features of PostScript and TrueType font formats

Thanks - I jhave been able to use NexusFont and like it this far. I think the issue is actually with these particular fonts because, during further attempts to solve the problem, I realized that FontForge doesn’t work with them either. I have 6000 fonts, both OTF and TTF, and it’s only this handful that are problematic. They do work in programs that use fonts, such as MSWord. Reinstalling the fonts doesn’t seem to work, and I don’t know anything else to try.

Actually, they are in that folder. I am guessing that the longer address, which is in a hidden folder, leads to the same fonts folder, and NexusFont is giving the long address. See the two screenshots in the attached image.

Thanks for your efforts - I did view that video when I originally searched for help for the issue. In the video, the problem is listed fonts that aren't showing characters. In my case, the fonts aren't uploading at all (i.e., they aren't listed at all).

UPDATE: It turns out that 13 of the 14 fonts were from a single source. Since I couldn't rename them myself (since in addition to NexusFont, FontForge also wasn't finding them), that company renamed them for me. I deleted the original font files and installed the renamed ones. NexusFont was able to load them immediately, so the issue is solved. I still have one font that isn't loading, but I will see if that font's source will help me with renaming. So, while I have no idea what caused the issue, and what was wrong with the names in the first place, apparently renaming them was the solution. Thanks to everyone who attempted to assist.
