Hi, I recently replaced my old 970 with a 980 ti, performance in game is fine good frames but loading games up is taking about 3 mins and when i alt tab my pc starts freaking out, freezing and steam crashing. I used DDU to uninstall the 970 drivers and reinstalled the 980 ti driver, this fixed the issue but when i woke up the next day the same problems were back. Also been keeping an eye on GPU temp and it's not going above 75. cheers

New GPU install causing problems

What model of power supply do you have? Not all power supplies are created equal and some PSU's may not be capable of providing a continuous amount of wattage that meets the video cards requirements so having a lower efficiency and a sub par brand unit could be the cause of the system freezing up.
Are you overclocking any components? Did this issue start as soon as you replaced the video card with the NVIDIA 980 TI? Did you try installing the latest video drivers from NVIDIA's website?

Hi Evan, the PSU is an XFX 80+ 750w, no overclocking and yes the issues only started as soon as i replaced the 970 with the 980 ti, dunno if its worth mentioning but I installed a new oculus rift at the same time as i put the card in, all my drivers are up to dateHi wulbo, Welcome to PCHF!

Your present Nvidea drivers are below;
NVIDIA HDMI Audio Driver Version 1.3.35.1
NVIDIA Windows Kernel Mode Driver, Version 388.13
Both are known to have caused many folk problems, see here and here
What I would suggest, stop Windows from automatically downloading/installing Nvidea drivers** download and save the last stable driver that worked for you, create a new system restore point, use DDU to uninstall the present Nvidea drivers, restart the computer in Safe Mode only (no networking) install the drivers that you previously saved, restart the computer, test and post back with an update for us.

Search Services on the Start menu.
Look for NVIDIA Display Driver Service from the list, right click on it and select Properties.
Click on the Stop button to disable it for the session.
You may receive a message stating that disabling this service will also stop the NVIDIA Streamer Network Service.
Click on Yes if the prompt appears.
Switch the Startup type from Automatic to Disabled.
Click Apply.
