Hello,
So two weeks ago I built myself a new computer.

Specs:
Asus ROG z690-A D4 Wifi
Intel i7-12700k
Corsair Dominator 2x16 3200Mhz
Gigabyte RTX 3080ti OC
Corsair RM850x 850w psu

I also use a DELL S2716DGR and Gigabyte G34WQC monitors, both connected with DP

It was fine for the first two days but after that, in the mornings when I turned on the PC, it just wouldn't detect my GPU.

The only thing that worked randomly in the first few days was turning off power completely, letting the power drain out and then turn on the computer again, that would usually solve the problem, but today it wasn't the case and only after hitting the cmos reset button in the back of the motherboard it worked. I also noticed it *could* be an issue related to time?
When the GPU is detected, I can restart it as many times as I want, even if it's off for an hour or two. But, if the computer stays off all night or for a long period of hours, the next morning it just doesn't detect it
I've tried reseating it, cleaning everything off, reinstalling the drivers from scratch, anything but reinstalling windows again. I don't know what to try anymore.
Should I buy new DP cables just to see if that solves it? I need help.
Thank you

have you checked the ASUS website for the Memory QVL to see if those Corsair sticks are compatible?
have you tried running with only one monitor at a time?
what about running the rig with the onboard graphics (remove the GPU) and double checking the rig runs fine without the suspected GPU at fault?

Quick update:
I turned off my computer and disconnected the power to reconnect all cables inside the case, and when I went to power it on again, the problem happened again.
The VGA light stayed on, while the computer itself booted just fine (heard it in the headphones and corsair LEDs changed to the default profile). After a few hard power off (hold power button for a few seconds) and turning on again, the ROG splash screen appeared and now the computer is fully booted with visuals aswell.

I have checked the QVL and these specific sticks don't appear to be on the list.. would that be causing a big problem even tho all of the parts are brand new?
I have tried running with only one monitor and it doesn't really affect anything.
The rig runs fine every time with the onboard graphics when the GPU isn't being detected, but it also works perfectly when the GPU is eventually detected - it runs games well and performs well in different stress tests.

I guess you could always RMA the graphic card on the (educated) assumption it is the cause.
have you tried the card in the other PCI-x slot?
I still have my old Aorus 1080ti, should I try replacing the 3080ti with it and check if it runs?

Also, the card is too big I can't fit it in the other pci slot unfortunately

yes, definitely try another card, at this stage we are trying to isolate the cause, and the RTX3080 would be top of the current list.

that card has a recommended 750watt power requirement, so maybe your RM850x is not quite enough.
I'll get @phillpower2 to double check that.

I have put my older 1080ti in my current system and it does indeed work, whereas I then put the 3080ti a second after and the problem occurred again. The thing is, when I put the 3080ti in my older system, it worked aswell.. This is bugging me out

Another update: After my computer not detecting the GPU this morning no matter what I did - I bought a new CMOS battery and so far it's working. I'll have to give another update in a day after I test things to see where it's at.

Yes that would be better, but sometimes a person will get conflicting info from 2 different forums and ..well that has created more pc issue's. Been there seen that..

Yes that does make sense, although so far I haven't gotten (or I don't think I have) any solution that would cause more or bigger damage, so for now I think we're good here haha. I've literally tried so many things from my knowledge and suggestions from you guys, that I'm hoping the issue is solved by now, but I'll only know tomorrow. The last thing I can possibly think of is some sort of electrical issue with the CableMod extensions where the GPU isn't getting the voltage needed at startup.. I dunno, time will tell. I appreciate yall's help nonetheless!

Heyo, I forgot to give an update since I just started a new semester in college so I got kinda busy.
Unfortunately not. The CMOS battery change didn't do anything and I'm waiting until I'll have enough time to go RMA my GPU. Although I'm just not 100% confident it's the GPU since when it's detected, it works just fine (If that's non-related and it can still happen even if the GPU is defected please let me know I'm chatting nonsense haha), but yeah I'm just at a dead end where I'm not really 100% sure and confident that I know what the source of the problem is and I have no idea how to go on from here, and how it's even possible to try and locate what the source of the problem is.
If you have any tips I would absolutely be grateful. I don't want to drive 1:30 hours to the shop to drop my GPU just for them to tell me a couple days later it's not the problem and they can't RMA it, so any help would be amazing.

Thank you!

what is the power supply make/model of the other PC you put the 3080ti into and it worked?

to simulate the PC being off over night, get the PC started with the new GPU and working, then shutdown normally, pull of the PC power supply, then press the cases start button.
of course it won't actually start, but that will drain any residual charge.
now plug back in the power cord and try and start it - does the GPU get detected?

The other computer's PSU is Antec VALUE POWER Active PFC 700W 80+ VP700P Plus

About the second part, I've done that too many times and sometimes (more often than not) it doesn't detect, but sometimes it does 😪
