Solved New computer crashing

I recently bought a new computer with Windows 10 on it. I had it less than 24 hrs when I got the BSOD. I was in the middle of installing GTA 5 (store bought, legit copy) when it happened. I was only able to even get it to go the my main Windows page 1 after that. Every other time it wouldn't even get that far. Safe mode even failed. I sent it back to iBuypower (where I bought it), They replaced the CPU, RAM, and finally the SSD drive reinstalling Windows. After each step, they tried it and still got the BSOD until replacing the SSD and Windows stopped it. My question is, can a game like that do all of that, or could it have been, more than likely, a faulty SSD or Windows? I get it back on Friday and want to know if it is safe to put GTA on it. I know the game it fine as I have had it on my current computer for about a year and it runs fine. I am new to Windows 10.
I am also aware that Rockstar says they do not support Windows 10, however, virtually all of the people I have spoken too who play, all have Windows 10. I also have never heard of it completely wrecking a computer. When there have been problems they are game crashings and infinite loading loops. If anyone needs event logs, I do have them.

Please help. As silly as it sounds, that game is pretty important to me.

Hi there Bill and welcome to PCHF :)

Are you able to upload the logs on your next post? That would be of really good benefit to us :)

Usually a BSOD will be caused by either a driver issue or a hardware fault. The logs you post will help us determine the exact cause of your BSODs :)

To answer your question, a game can cause a BSOD. Any software can if it has critical bugs or if it tries to access a part of memory that it's not allowed to.

Hi,

Thanks for your log :) It points to a critical process being terminated, called a Critical_Process_Died Bug_Check, which without a DMP file, is impossible to locate what caused it. But judging by what you described, something terminated a critical process and Windows rebooted to protect itself. I personally have GTA 5 myself, on Windows 10, and it runs just fine. If you continue to experience BSODs after getting it back, please follow the BSOD Prework and we'll gather up what we can and see if we can't troubleshoot it for you :)

Thank you very much. Still debating on if I will try another install. I am kind of afraid to. But being kind of homebound, GTA is my saving grace I suppose. my concern is that I was totally unable to even run safe mode. Not sure I would have been able to even get to the screen that has that info. But, if it happens again, I will certainly try.

Hi Bill and welcome to the group.

What I would suggest that when you get the system create a recovery image. This way you can restore the system if needed.

It is always a good idea to make a back up(s) of your hard drive that way if some thing happens you can recover your data.

Since I haven't heard anything back for over 30 days, I'm going to mark this as solved. If you continue experiencing issues, please either PM a staff member to reopen this or create a new thread :)
