The hardware I've assembled:
Asus prime b550 motherboard ( Amazon warehouse )
Ryzen 5 5600
Asus 4060 dual oc

I'm just getting a black screen, no bios or anything. I've checked the barcode on the motherboard for the bios version, which says it above the version it should be to support this processor ( version 2803).
Everything plugged in where it should be . Completely at a loss as to what the problem is .. Could the power supply be stopping it booting? ( It turns on ) . Could faulty ram stop it booting? Those are the only things that aren't new apart from the motherboard which was in Amazon warehouse, probably a return. I'm tearing my hair out over this, going round in circles.
 
You previously started a thread here for the exact same thing so can I ask what the outcome was with the other MB and why on earth after having things explained to you why you again went and purchased another MB that will also need a BIOS update before it will be able to recognise a 5th gen Ryzen CPU.
 
This motherboard supports this RYZEN 5 5600 from bios number 2423 - my board shipped with bios number 2803 - so it should already be compatible, should it not ?
 
Amazon do not flash MBs BIOS, merchants that sell through Amazon may well do but why would a seller go to the trouble of installing a BIOS version that is out of date.

Have you checked the information label between the CPU and memory slot/s, the last four digits that represent the BIOS version can also be found there.

It says "BOD 2803" . And according to the manufacturers own website, this processor is supported from version 2423 . Baffled.

Is there some reason why you will not tell us how things went when you tried the Ryzen 5 2600 in the previous MB 🤔

The previous MB was compatible with the 2600 CPU when out of the box new which means that you would have been able to update the BIOS so that the 5th gen Ryzen would be recognised, you are now back here with the same 5th gen Ryzen CPU, a MB that has a version of BIOS that post dates the minimum required yet you are still not able to get even a BIOS screen, the only ever present thing is the 5th gen Ryzen CPU so you need to start considering that it is that that is bad.

Was this latest MB sold as new and in 100% working condition.
 
The ryzen 5 2600 and Asus a320 combo didn't work. Maybe the cpu was fried or maybe the motherboard was the issue. Either way , I decided to get a better motherboard, one that's advertised as Ryzen 5000 ready ( literally says it on the box). As I said the board wasn't brand new , it was from " Amazon warehouse" , the section where they sell returned and refurbished items, advertised as used but in good condition.
Do you think I could just take the individual parts to a repair shop and have them single out which is causing the issue? ( I'm a bit wary of repair shops after half the memory went missing the last time I used one !)

Can I ask, are you just unlucky with hardware or do you purchase potentially broken components hoping to get lucky.

Sorry but not being familiar with amazon warehouse I had no idea that they sold stuff that may well be broken.

There are 28 different variants of ASUS B550 chipset MB, can you tell us which one on the list here is the same as the one that you have.
 
Am I unlucky, I'm not sure but the whole thing has been a sht show to be honest. I'm leaving it to the pro's next time . With that being said, the specific board I have on that list is the "ASUS PRIME B550MA" . I've got a replacement Ryzen 5 5600 on the way now . If I can't figure out the issue with the board, I'll send that back also

The specs here for that MB show that it is compatible with 3rd, 4th and 5th gen CPUs, the R5 5600 CPU was not released until 04/04/2022 which is some six months after BIOS version 2423 was released so it is technically possible for the MB to have an earlier version of BIOS than what is required for your 5th gen CPU.

Fingers crossed for you that you have better luck with the replacement processor.

Hi , I finally got to the bottom of it ! I bought a gizmo called the "digiflex atx PSU tester" - ( the PSU was the only part that wasn't new, silly of me to overlook it ! ) . Although the PSU is still good , I noticed a lose wire that was causing an error on the "Power Good" signal, (which is the green light for the motherboard to function correctly apparently..) After correcting it ,.bingo i was in ! ( To the bios at least) Little did I know that this wasn't the end of my troubles. I had to take a mini course on fTPM and switch the processor out several times before finally being able to access windows. But all's well that ends well ! A valuable lesson to not overlook the fine details . I've learnt more about this than I ever wanted to!

You could have saved yourself an awful lot of grief if you had heeded the advice way back in my reply #2 at your previous thread here

I would swap in a known good PSU before going down that route as well.
