Solved Network Shares

I have 4 pcs on my internal network. They are all in the same named workgroup.
2 laptops run Windows 10 Home, 1 Desktop runs Windows 10 Pro, and the newest laptop runs Windows 11.
1 laptop on Win 10 home is on Version 21H2, the other on 2004. The Win 10 Pro is on 20H2. Windows 11 is up to date.

My issues are viewing of network shares. All Windows 10 systems see each other and can access each others Public folders with no issues. (At times the icons randomly appear and disappear, but shares can still be accessed by using \\PCNAME\ )
The win 10 systems can see the Win 11 system, but no public folder is seen when we try and access the system. There are no error messages.
All systems networks are set to private. File and Printer sharing is turned on as is network discovery, under the Private profile.
Password protected sharing is off under all networks.

I have no idea why we cannot see the public folder on the win 11 system. The win 11 system can see and access all the windows 10 public folders.

Any ideas?

and this in group policy
  1. Scroll the list to find the policy “Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level”.
  2. Right click on this policy and choose “Properties”.
  3. Choose “Send NTLMv2 response only/refuse LM & NTLM” (My original setting was: "Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated" )
  4. Click OK and confirm the setting change.
  5. Close the “Group Policy” window.

Thanks. Will try these tomorrow. I rightly or wrongly assumed that as I could see the win 11 system, that smb client would be enabled, but I will check this also. I think it's win11 home, is group policy access able??

I agree why not just have 1version.....if you don't need the features then don't use them or at least let there be a way to enable these features.... Seems more like a marketing and money thing to me

Hi.... Really sorry for not getting back, other more pressing matters have taken up my time.. I will get to looking at the suggestions made today or tomorrow.... I didn't mention and not sure if it makes any odds.... I had to set up win11 with a Microsoft account, but then reverted to a local account, it wouldn't let me setup with a local account. All win 10 systems are on local accounts...

On the one that does not work and on one that does
Open the cmd prompt and either type or copy and paste

what is in Blue. What is in Red is what you do e.g Enter (Press the Enter key)

ipconfig /all >"%userprofile%\desktop\ipconfig.txt" Enter

This should put a text file on your desktop. Please attach the files in your reply.

I had a look today, as I now have time. Whilst checking a few basic things such as the sharing status of the folders, I went back to the advanced sharing options, and under all networks, public file sharing had switched itself off, even though when I checked the public folder it was actually shared to all users. I enabled this again, and all seems fine, and all PCs on the network can see each others public folders.
I have no idea how it came to be switched off, as I am almost 100% certain I enabled it previously. Note to self.... Check the basics first!!!
I did find it odd, that all PCs could see the win 11 system, just no folders, and the 11 system could see every other PCs public folders
