Hi.

I have a fairly new setup windows 10 pc. Recently having to reset modem every time I turn on as pc cannot see my home wifi. All other devices can see wifi. My pc can see neighboring wifi networks.

Have you contacted your ISP?

If I log onto Gateway using another device ( iPhone for instance). I can restart gateway and PC will see it. As well as the 2 netgear extension services. ( 2 G and 5G. ).

Have just done this again.

How close is the desktop to the modem? What were the results?
If it is close enough can you connect it using a cable and see if the same issue happens.
Make sure the WiFi is turned off on the desktop.

Have you tried resetting the the network card form with in Windows
Open Settings
Click on Network & Internet
Click on Status
Click on Network reset
Click the Reset now button
Click Yes to confirm and let your computer restart

It may take a few extra time for the system to completely reboot since it is rebuilding the network then try the network and let us know.

If that does not help then we will need.

Download then run Speccy (free) and post the resultant url for us, details here, this will provide us with information about your computer hardware + any software that you have installed that may explain the present issue/s.

To publish a Speccy profile to the Web:

In Speccy, click File, and then click Publish Snapshot.

In the Publish Snapshot dialog box, click Yes to enable Speccy to proceed.

Speccy publishes the profile and displays a second Publish Snapshot. You can open the URL in your default browser, copy it to the clipboard, or close the dialog box.

20 meters can not seeing that being fun. Connecting it directly to the modem would tell us if there is a network or just the WiFi adapter. If you can move the computer closer if not than no big deal.

Has this always been an issue or did this happen after lets say if the modem and or the system was moved to a different location.

Knowing more about the events leading up to where this started happening would be helpful.

When you ran the speccy report were you connecting to the internet at the time or not?

You stated the you replace the dongle and same issue. Did you uninstall the previous software before installing the new?

You state that you are 20 meters how strong is the signal when you have one?

We can try a complete removal of software and references from with in device manager.
Which can be found here How To Speed Up Your Internet Connection

Or ditch the dongle and get a WiFi card and install that.

Another thing that may help is get power-line adapters

Ok. Moved PC into lounge where gateway is. Tried wifi. No different. Still can’t see gateway.

Connected cat5. Perfect. Works no issue.

Removed drivers and reinstalled for wifi dongle. No different.

Tried WPS on gateway to connect dongle. Dongle cannot see gateway to connect.

I had a couple of power line adapters from Foxtel. Plugged them in and works fine.

Unless here is an easy obvious issue I am just going to run with power line adapters.

Aaaand. Returned pc to office. Tried power line adapters and not working. The wall plug must be on a different circuit in office compared to where gateways is.

As I’m in a rental I didn’t really want to install a wall plate and run cat5/6 to office but may have to.

You can run the cat 6 or internal WiFi card with antenna since you stated. Form the sounds of it the walls and distance are just to much for the dongle to handle.
Also note. I have laptop sitting right next to pc and it can see wifi fine.

I would suggest you look into other wise you may have to look into running cable.
Or ditch the dongle and get a WiFi card and install that.

You are plugging the power line directly into a wall socket correct?
