Need help with upgrading parts for PC and learning about Computers

Looking to upgrade my PC at the moment. I don't know what it is, but I think my processor is not able to keep up anymore. I am experiencing a lot of crashes in games like League of Legends which generally doesn't take much to play in the first place and I think getting a new processor overall would be beneficial long term. My PC is about 6-7 years old now. My graphics card should still be fine (I think) since I have the most updated drivers and everything, but let me know what you think. I think my other parts (PSU, Motherboard) are also somewhat fine, but if you could give me suggestions on some parts to upgrade or would need to be upgraded if I ended up getting a different part. (Example: like I would need to upgrade my PSU to accommodate a new graphics card or something of the like), that would be great. I am not looking for anything really fancy, just the next tier up when it comes to upgrading my specific parts.

Please try to keep the computer/tech lingo to a minimum or try explaining it in some way as I am still learning. If you could also suggest any sites/books that are helpful in learning about computers and their parts that would be great as well.

Thanks!

My Specs:

CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1035t
GPU: ATI AMD Radeon HD 7900
PSU: Corsair Cx600
Motherboard: Asus M5A99X Evo
