Solved My new computer won’t shut down or restart because of gpu

I’ve removed the drivers while the card was in and it still ran fine. It also ran fine right after windows install when (according to add/remove programs at least) there was no graphics driver.
But I’ll try doing it in the order you suggests as well in case it makes a difference?

We tried exchanging cards and it was definitely not the card :( mine worked fine in his computer and my computer didn’t work with his.
We also tried exchanging psu with the same result.
He has kept the computer to check the motherboard and bios as he has more experi nice with that...
:(

Have them reassemble the system outside of the case on a thick piece of cardboard.

Does the system work properly. If it does there may be a chance that the motherboard is shorting on the case and you need more and or longer spacers.

The MB has two PCI-E slots, has the GPU been tried in both but the behaviour was the same.

Have you installed the latest BIOS, a couple of earlier BIOS updates were to address GPU compatibility, see info here

The card has been tried in both slots with the same result (+we’ve tried my friends card with the same result)
I can’t remember if I’ve updated bios.. I know I did something with it but I’ve tried so much the last 3-4 days that I can’t even remember anymore XD
I’ll check it out and try it (again) if my version isn’t the newest.
Btw are you sure you sent the right link? I can’t find anything about bios updates there but maybe I’m not looking in the right place?

The link works, not the computer.
My friend says he will try a bios update today or tomorrow so I’m waiting for news. (I’m visiting family because of a wedding so he’s looking at it for me while I’m away. I’m sending your suggestions to him and he tells me what happens ^^’ )

Ask your friend to disable fast boot as well as this is known to cause problems with the computer not shutting down, use the steps below that will not only disable hibernation (a totally useless feature imo) but also fast boot;

To disable Hibernation:

  1. The first step is to run the command prompt as administrator. In Windows 10, you can do this by right clicking on the start menu and clicking "Command Prompt (Admin)"
  2. Type in "powercfg.exe /h off" without the quotes and press Enter. If you typed it in correctly, the cursor will simply start at a new line asking for new input
  3. Now just exit out of command prompt

I've now updated the BIOS to the newest version (took a couple of tries) and it seems to work now *crosses fingers* ! I have turned it on and off several times with success :D
(How do I mark it as solved?)
