I can't get any microphones to work with my PC; so far I've tried two gaming headsets and a lapel microphone. I've tried the rear I/O audio port on my motherboard and the mic input port on the front panel of my case. The rear port doesn't register that a mic is connected. The front panel says the mic is connected, and registers audio input during testing (100% of volume), but it doesn't pick up my voice when I try to use software.

Any thing I can try? I don't think its a bad mic because I had the same problem with two gaming headsets.

Just checked the drivers -- they are up-to-date.

The software I've used is Voice Recorder and You Tube (the voice search feature). I haven't tried USB or XLR.

Just to clarify some information.

When recording using a head set not the speakers. For play back the speakers are ok.

Some Mic have an on off switch.

Under recording in Sounds is the audio bar showing anything.

Also, while there look under Communication Tab and try different setting see if they help.

Maybe there is something wrong with the audio port on my motherboard since the 3.5mm jack on the front and rear don't work. I will try a USB mic to see if it works.

USB mic is working fine. I guess I have a problem with my motherboard as far as the 3.5mm input goes. I'm not going to bother trying to fix that, so this thread can be closed.

Thank you all for the help!
