Mhl vs Super MHL

I'm wondering if anyone knows or has tried this; as you may or may not know, MHL has finally returned. Those who don't know what that is: you can plug any device S5 or older into a TV through HDMI using an adapter. S5 note through S7 Edge didn't have MHL. MHL was designing super MHL which is now out on the S8 & S8+.

Can you plug a S8 into a regular MHL adapter to get it to work as it would on super MHL?
I'd be willing to try it, however last time I wanted to see what would happen on my S7 Edge if I plugged it in, and it fried the HDMI cord. So before I try I wanted to see if anyone else has tried or know if it works or not?

@vger I'm not keen on trying this as last time it fried the HDMI cord. I realized that I don't actually have the right hook up for it. I need to get a type c to micro USB hook up to try this. Currently I'm working on the laptop project so this is kind of on hold until I get some extra cash together.
