Hi folks,

I'm desperate, i asked several forums run in my home country, but no one was able to help. Lenovo Tech Support after warranty is suggesting: please reinstall OS one more time.

Patient:
Lenovo Yoga 900-13 ISK, Win 10 Home, Machine type - Model 80MK00G3PB, link to model specs: https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/Sy...enovo_YOGA_900_13/Lenovo_YOGA_900_13_Spec.PDF

Background:
My sister has, described above, laptop. A few months ago she start to complaint that "computer is turning off itself" in the middle of the work.

My investigation:
I took it from her and used normally for a few days. It was working. I updated drivers and gave it back. She reportwed that problem still existed. I took one more time. This time I run a few benchmarks and several other stuffs to heat it up. I measured temperature (it was ok). Finaly i replaced cooling paste under CPU and reinstall OS. Of course sister reported that nothing changed which was really annoying because i was unable to saw the issue.

After a while accidentaly I found it. When I am using combination of buttons Win+Tab it is crushing. It is not turning off, but screen become black (only backlight is working) computer doesn't react for nything except power button. I thought something with screen/display and resolution (becouse Alt+Tab ws working). I checked Display driver log, no errors. I used older drivers, another one from different source (not from Lenovo but Intel), i reinstalled OS to check on "fresh" OS, check with register. Nothing. I checked the same issue working on ac adapter and battery. I unpluge the batter and checked on acad only and the same.

Now even after reinstall of OS it is crushing during OS boot. Only possibility to use PC is: run Repair mode in Win 10, change the resolution of the screen to lower then base 3200 x 1800 . Then it is working. In lower resolution even Not working previously Win Tab is working.

So Why am I writing here? Because i gave back laptop and advice to use lower resolution. After several days shje reported that poroblem came back even in lower res.

Do You have any idea what might be wrong? Hardware problem i'm not sure if is a root cause, it is working after changing the resolution. Looks like some problem with screen and scalling maybe?

thank You for reply and sorry for delay. To the point, here is the link: speccy.piriform.com/results/pue0nf8xkzsooemlygrwoxj

Current ver is: 1903, compilation 18362.657

But please note that i tried several times option of restoring from original Lenovo disk image (not only reinstall of OS). It means that, in theory, at foctory setup it should work- is not related to Win build. If on fresh copy win is crushing on Win+Tab, but is not at lower resolution.

Edit: forgot to add. PC was bought aruond 2016-2017

something to try first (a long shot) - remove your F-Secure antivirus software, reboot and see if that helps.
and from an elevated command prompt type sfc /scannow to look for OS file corruption.

while going back to the factory image from Lenovo may help, that would be a very old Win10 version, so wouldn't be my first choice for problem solving.

I would however be upgrading to the latest 1909 build.
get the Windows Creation Tool from Microsoft and create a bootable USB stick image.
even though it sounds like you have already tried reinstalling Windows, I'd take this upgrade as an opportunity to do a fresh install of Win10 again.

after all that, check the Intel website for the latest driver for the Intel 520 HD graphics card.
and check Lenovo for any BIOS updates.

Thank You for reply.

It's hard to say. In theory problem with sudden lack of video vanished, "but". Sister reported that she had twice situation, where after computer went "sleep" she had a problem with waking him. Hard reboot with power button was needed. I'll update power drivbers only and will see (as suggested i installed "clean" ver of OS and video driver only, turned off auto updates.).

ehh, problem described above returned and evolved. Now i heard from her that when she tried to turn it on- POST screen apeared, "rolling cycle" and that's it. No OS loading screen, black screen with backlight. On external screen the same. Anyone have any idea?

SSD failure or Windows corruption are two possible causes.

Can I ask how the SSD/HDD is identified in the BIOS, a Seagate HDD for example will be listed something like ST1000DM004 and a Western Digital along the lines of WD10JPLX other brands will have similar identification codes, only when such an ID code is present is a HDD actually detected and an entry simply listed as SATA SSD/HDD means that the BIOS will and has looked for a SSD/HDD in that particular boot sequence but no SSD/HDD was detected.

The following received via PM from Zdzisqqq,

Nevermind. I found a root cause. CPU or smething that is providing a power to it. During some specified operation, when CPU is using it's integrated graphic card voltage is starting to have spikes. And it is always causing this problems.

Ergo, MB for replacement (CPU, RAM etc solidered to mobo).

Could You please update this old topic with this information? May be usefull for others (as i mentioned, no similar topic is present in most popular forums).
